Default Cleaning up slop

Ok.. I'm no expert - and doing what I'm about to say can cause problems if you do it wrong.

Thats your warning.

Anyway. I found an article recently concerning slop in heli's.. Specifically a raptor .50. Mine had about 30 flights on it and the flybar had a little slop in the aileron position and a good bit of slop in the elevator position.

Here is what I did to fix it..

In some of the control mechanisims on the raptor, there is a metal sleeve that goes inside of the bearings. The metal sleeve keeps you from tightening the screws too tight and causing resistance; however, it usually leaves a mm or so gap. That alows the control arm to slide on the screw. I took the sleeves and glued them into the bearings with thick CA. Specifically, I did this on the mixing arms, the washout arms and the arm with 2 balls on it in the elevator linkage train.

It made a huge difference!

Just my 2 cents worth.. enjoy.
Doc.

Default Re: Cleaning up slop

I do the same thing except that I use the Loctite Green sleeve retainer instead of CA.
It is VERY important that you do not get any of whatever adhesive you use in the bearings. It doesnt matter how well greased your bearings are, the adhesives will destroy the bearings instantly if it gets in them.
