Here's the deal just got G3.5 ,Bought it to help improve my fixed wing skills.
Well i've never flown a heli so i've been practicing for a couple of weeks now and i can fly the pattern left and right turns, hover, sideways left and right without crashing 9 out of 10 flights. My questions is this at all like flying a model heli. or are their any changes i can do to make it as real as possible before i spend the bucks. Future Heli pilot! ![]() Any help would be great. Didn't know helis were so fun. Thanks, Troy |

Well you have certainly taken the bait. We'll let you run with it some yet and the hook will be set once you get to burning nitro (or electrons)
![]() For the most part the sim is pretty close to the real thing except that I have been unable to find a real TX with that red button that does the repairs. You will always be behind the sim with the real thing due to the pucker factor that is not present on the sim. Most plankers that try helies find that the heli flying causes a dramatic improvement to their plank flying. |

Thanks Jeff for the reply. I'll keep putting time on the sim. Then i'll decide what to buy first.

hi there i am new to helis to but have been in the hobby for almost 10 years 3 of i have been a member of scalerchelis.com helping others with problems that i can help with and helping getting info for the scale side of the hobby not taking any thing from this site i love both sites for the help they give . but now i have a century hawk pro .30 that i would recomend to any newbie due to it rock solid . this is how i have mine set up .
radio - specktrum dx7 heli heli - cenutry hawk pro .30 engine - os .32 heli gyro - 401 heading hold tail servo - 9253 futaba pitch on the main blades is on the top is + 8 on the bottom is 0 they set that for me to learn to hover granted it has only flew sunday for the frist time but . this i would say to any new piolt that want to get in to heli find a heli club and join and the members there are willing to help out any one . i live in north orlando fl so i am going to the www.torchs.org field and they have helped me out a bunch and i thank them for helping me in my endever . but to awncer your question keep it up on the sim g3.5 is the closest i have found to the real thing but as stated above it doesnt replace the pucker factor when doing it for real . i hovered mine today not a good hover but a hover and my knees could be heared from a half mile they were shakeing so hard and i have had the sim since they came out with them started with the dave brown sim lol good luck and happy flying |

like mentioned earlier,, the pucker factor is the major one. The sims will demonstrate best case scenario also--such as, perfectly set up heli's and they seem to have more power than is possible in the real world. The real key is to get hooked up with a good heli guy locally to help you with the setup (this is truly the key part) and hopefully through the first few flights as you will have lots of questions on tuning, adjustments, etc. The sims teach us muscle memory and orientation, those are two key parts but the pucker factor cannot be simulated!!
You will enjoy heli's and like mentioned, the skills compliment your plank skills. Check out www.runryder.com for a pilot locator that you can see who is flying in your area. There is some good info there but I caution you that there is alot of crap there too! Good luck and keep posting any questions. Troy |
