I agree with Adrian. For the price difference between metal and plastic, I view it as an insurance policy. Why chance it. All it takes is one stripped gear and it is over. I am flying 40% planes so for me it is a must but I still agree with Adrian. As he says, it is my opinion only.

We are not talking about 40% planes and he already owns the servos. He just wants to know if they are safe to use.

As long as you know how to make a slop free linkage and you gap seal your surfaces there is no reason for flutter. Servo gears don't cause flutter, they strip out because of flutter.

At 6 volts the 8411Sa is 180 oz of torque, that rating is with those gears. Since when was that not enough for a 50 cc plane.

A10,
We use to run single 4721's on the elevator halfs of 35% Carden Caps with 40 degrees of throw. Never had any issues with flutter. They were only 120 oz servos but were the best out at the time. I think the SA's will be better than the metal geared due less slop. Nylon gears can run a much tighter gear lash. The 8411sa is nothing more than a 8411 with 4721 gears. Some heli guy that has won a few events tryed it to improve the deadband. I think his name is Youngblood. Some thing like that anyway. LoL You will be fine with those servos. Just be sure and strap your battery in really well. Hate to see the lake eat another one!!

Tony
TX Tony - yup only my opinion - my dad who has been at it for 40 odd years and when 10oz servos were gi-nourmous even agrees.

sweat pea - i was not getting factual on price for a specific servo - I was pointing to good metal gear servos at $30.

also brand was never an issue for me - had many 8411's that served us well - my point is that in todays world with 300oz titanuim gears servos and all the rest of the modern gimos, use it and thas it!!

Are you aware that 8411SA are 150 oz servos on 4 volts, they are also much higher than $30 servos. 8411SA are far from standard servos...........

Sweetpea,

I use JR 368 servos on my throttle........small, fast and not tooooo expensive.....

I've used them on my 35% and my 40% for years......

And for Adrian......Last time I checked a 8411SA isn't a $30 dollar servo. It is still rated for tons of torque, more than you would ever need (or is reccommended) on a 50cc. The question by A10 wasn't what would you run but can you run a 8411sa........The answer is yes, and quite safely even at 3-D throw. Many choose not to because they feel safer with metal type gears.

As for flutter, a plastic gear servo won't cause flutter.....broken gears may, or not enough holding torque.

If you already have the 8411SA's go for it and let us know how it works out. The way I fly.....I have a tendancy to do excessively high speed, violent maneuvers, and have stripped some of the cheaper hitec "metal" geared servos, thats why I would be a little nervous. Chances are you will never have a problem, I have been told "you will rip the wings off your planes doing that", and so far I have not had any spontanious mid air explosions yet.
