Hey Guys,
I'm looking for pics of how people have been installing cannister mufflers in their composite airframes, specifically: How big are you making the holes in the front of the fuse for the headers to come through? How are you addressing keeping the inside of the fuse cool? Are you building Tunnels? Are you having to open up your cowls on the front any more to allow better airflow? Thanks! |

Here's what I did. I have roughly twice this area cut out in the bottom of my fuse and it seems to be working. I am worried that I need more, but it does work. RickP |

Gee - I don't have a comp - but ya have me worrying if I have a large enough vent hole in the back.
I love the way these things have no basic install parameters with them. It is strickly by trial, error and word of mouth (and internet!) Any feedback on my install is welcome. This weekend is my first running of the engine!

The cross headers allow the stinger from the cans to be further forward than with standard drops. The headers have to be a particular length so cutting them is not really an option.
For example, I have headers on my MTW cans that go straight back, but upon installing them I found that the stinger was positioned directly over my gear plate! I talked to DA and they informed me that there is a minimum length that you can cut the headers down to, and I was able to cut off an inch on the header in question to get the stinger in front of my gear plate. |

Hi,
Here is a couple of shots of my Comp-Arf 260. I'm using BMB cans, which use a pretty short header. I've use MTW with crossover headers (same as imac kiwi's) in my superXtra wich worked pretty good. I have ventelation holes in the botom of my fuse, and so far I havent encountered any heat related issues, with either set up.

When I say stinger I am referring to the part where the exhaust comes out of the muffler. |

I had two successful maiden flights today with my DA & KS Canister 'cans'.
I did have one problem, the black clamps that connect the sleeve to the header and can did not hold up to the job. My canister come off the sleeve. Now those clamps were a bear to spread and put in place, so I'm surprised the two separated. I'm thinking I have dual option - so any suggestions ( your tried and true solution?) are welcome. Use RTV Silicone for sealing the sleeve to the header & canister and clamp with automotive screw-spring type clamps. ( I used the copper gasket as sealer in the install so no adhesion was provided by the sealer.) 2. Mechanically fasten the canister to the fuse (in addition to the bulkhead with the silicone spacers). Possibly use a heat resistant thick fiber type washer passed over the 'stinger' stopping at the canister. Then attach a wire from the washer to a screw at the front of the firewall. Help?
