Default QQ Yak 86 - Help me deck it out

Hey Guys -

I plan on getting the new QQ Yak 86 http://somenzini.com/html/aircraft/yak86.html when it comes out next month. This will be my first big plane. I already have a DA50 for it but what should I put in it from top to bottom. Let me hear so I can start counting my pennies and start buying my parts for it.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

5 good servos such as JR8611a or Hitec5955s. You can get by with 4 Hitec-5945 and one 8611a or similar.

2-Batteries. One for receiver such as Duralite Plus 4000 2s2p Li-Ion. Second a 4-cell NIMH around 2000 mah capacity.

(1) 6v regulator if you decided to do Li-Ion which I would recommend over NIMH.

(1) analog throttle servo.

Rest is extensions and such!

You can always post questions on our support forum here on FG if you have questions while building.

Thank you for choosing our Somenized Yak.

sounds good....

I use a 2400 LiIon on my Rx and it works fine, but some think it is too small.. works for me

Don't use any "Y" connectors...they are evil and bad!!!

Servos:
I would go with 8611a's all around and if the new 8711 is out then put one of those on rudder. For throttle - a high-end standard would probably work.
Batteries:
same packs as reza said (the duralites)
Fuel tank:
not sure about the DA 50 but for my 3W 75 a 24 oz is too much (I get about 25 min of flight time - maybe a 16-18 oz?

Rest of it is mainly switches, fuel line (I use tygon - make sure its for gas and not glow), extensions ect.

Fiber Optic Kill Switch, I use the Smart-Fly and it works great for me. There are some others too, Electro Dynamics is another that comes to mind. I consider this a must have.

Here is a link to the Smart-Fly http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Ignition/ignition.htm

Hi Mark. I put together a QQ Yak 85 for my 14 year old son this past summer. I did order the optional hardware kit that QQ has, it was all very nice hardware.

I used a JR 649s reciever, 5 8611a's with the aluminum JR servo arms, a standard JR servo for the throttle.

As for batteries, and I may have went a bit overkill on them, I ordered the JR Rx 6.0V Pack 4500mah NiMh for the reciever, and a 6.0V Pack 2700mah NiMH for the ignition, 2 JR charge switches, and all heavy duty JR servo extensions.

Reason for going with the batteries I did, and they are good batteries, it saved a little money verses getting the lipos, AND, with using a DA 50 and it being lighter than the 3W, even though that these batteries are a bit heavier, they were needed in order to get the plane to balance.

I dont know what changes have been made to the new QQ 86, but with the 85 I had to put the 4500 pack in the engine box all the way to the front, and the 2700 I had to place inside the fuse in front of the tank all the way to the front, it came out perfect.

I know that keeping it as light as possible is always the ideal thing to do, but its always better if your going to need the weight to put something in it that you can use instead of putting additional dead weight just for balance.

Anyways, that is what i ended up doing and it fly's great apparently because, we took the plane to an IMAC contest for my son to fly in the Basic class, he had never flown in a contest before, got there Friday evening and met with Mike McConville, the plane had never been flown and my son had never flown a sequence, Mike test flew the plane and trimmed it out which took very little at all, talked with my son and he made two test flights with it to practice, Mike called for him and coached him all weekend and he won the contest when the weekend was over.

Young kids seem to grasp things so fast and absorb things, I feel that had a little to do with it, and the fact that we were fortunate enough to know Mike and him being there to work with my son and give him guidance, and the rest I fell says a LOT as to the plane itself, its a really beautiful flying plane and I think that you are going to really enjoy it.

Sorry for the long story, just wanted to share and praise the plane a lil and what happened with it on its first time out, and very proud of my son and Mike, yea daddy was excited lol.

I did have a few questions along the way and did call QQ's business and talked to QQ and Wayne both a couple of times, they are great and will help and answer questions you may have, I cant say enough about them and the sevice they give !

Let us know how the new plane does when you get it.

All - I have to enable e-mails to come when a reply comes in. I want to say thank you to all for responding to my thread. I will note everything that was provided considering this is my first gasser and I will be putting it together.

I will also look into the fiber optical kill switch DGFick

Dan_nO -- Thanks for the write up buddy. I only been flying since 2004 but been moving like a snail. Time to move up.

REZA -- Any idea when the plane will be released. I am anxious and also it takes me a long time to complete a build due to work and family so I want to be ready for April.

Thanks all

Mark
