Default G-38 on an 80" profile?

Hi everybody
I've got a 80" Aeroworks profile plane sitting on the bench. I also have a G-38 on a plane that doesn't get flown too much. Any ideas how the G-38 would work on the big profile plane? Would it be able to hover? There's 1600 sq inches of wing, so it should float around fine, but I still want to be able to have some fun with it too!

Thanks
Terry

Never seen it done. My concern would be that there is just not enough airframe there for the vibration.

This is true - it shook pretty good with the BGX on there too. I was hoping to really reduce the fuel costs & cleanup.
..... Anyone have some estimates on what sort of vertical - if any - this would have? I'm running an APC 18-8 on it and it seems to do pretty good.

Thanks

Almost there on this project. I still need to get some control linkages & it's ready to go. I had to mount the motor about 1" in front of the wing leading edge to get it to balance - looks kind of goofy now. Plus I mounted the motor upright with the stacks straight up. Should be interesting. I found some super cheap TowerPro servos for it too. Hope it doesn't bite me - the case looks nice, but they aren't the best.

Hey There is a 80" profile out that will take a 50cc. Hope it flys well. What rating are the servos. I would at least put high torque if you are going to 3d it. just my 2 cents.

The OMP planes will take a BME 50, just beef up the fuse when framing it up.

Just stomp on it right now and get it over with...

You will have more fun destroying it with your foot rather than the death it will meet from the MG995 Tower Pro servos.

I "tested" them on my Yak-Pro Profile from TOC....they had a lot of "overshoot" when centering and I though nothing of it...what a lesson I learned.

Wicked uncontrollable re-centering that eventually crashed the plane.

Take them servos and throw them as far away from your plane as possible....preferably under the wheels of a semi. Don;t let anyone you love be anywher around you when you fly a plane with them.

Oh, I am sure you can find someone to say they are the greatest....but, remember you get what you pay for.....they are abject junk and cannot be trusted to anything worth your time. Mine are nailed to plague on my wall...with the saying "You get what you pay for".

I have a Morris Giant Su-Do-Khoi about the same dimensions. It is still in the box, but they do recommend a G38 gasser. The Morris website used to have film of it hovering.

Wow - you kind of nailed the overshoot problem. They were super cheap (cheeeep!) at $9 a piece. The 200 and some oz-in of torque and a digital servo seemed too good to be true. I think all the bits are there & hope they figure it out and come out with a V2. 9 bucks versus over a hundred for a good one would make a giant scale plane way more affordable!

Good deal on the G-38 making enough thrust!

Rappy, they are not digital....they are analog, copies of the Hitec 645 analog. And bad copies at that.

That is going to be a great plane, I love big Proffy's.

My Godzilla (TOC Yak-Pro w/YS110 ) is a real treat to fly. But it is a half pound heavier because of the MG995 knock-offs. Half a pound was the added weight of the rebuild after the Tower Pros screwed it into the ground.

Put those bargain servos in a bargain .46 profile and shake them out.....maybe you got ALL good ones....out of 4 I had two go screwy. But I wish I had checked them out in a.40 glow plane first before I stuck them in something I had respect for.

That 38 in the 8O inch will be a blast.....

Doooooo it! I just put the first flight on this setup & the G-38 worked great. It would pull out of a hover with no problem & vertical climb was no problem. The plane was fun & put up with what I gave it. I couldn't get it to "blender" but everything else was fun and the landing seemed to just float to the ground. I got it down to an eye level hover too - but it seems to want to wallow around in the hover and not lock in. There was a breeze out there (an it's 14 degrees out - numb hands!)

I like it - anyone have an "affordable" high-torque servo setup? I'm open to ideas. The TowerPro's seemed to work, but one of the ailerons will pause for 1/4 second or so after wiggling the sticks around (for maybe 5-10 seconds.)

Thanks
Terry

Yeah - 2nd flight this evening. It's neat how slow the profile flies. You can keep it in close and have fun. The hovering is getting better too.
