gohbee 50 is a good choice... Electrics fly well, are quiet, but to get into a 50 size electric you might as well get a 90. batteries are still 280 bucks a pop. Thats a lot of Nitro fuel, and flight times are still in the 6-8 minute range for an electric. I would stay stick with Nitro for now, and enjoy the fuel and fly style of NITRO.

I have been looking at a ghobee 50 raptor 50 and escideau(sp?) 50 for a while now, probably finally pick one and put it together after I finish up my double vision.

Do the survey on which heli your club members fly most. Weigh your decision toward the one your club members fly most. This is for emergency field repair possibility and collective maintanence info.

The Gohbee Stinger is just like the Raptor except blinged out a bit more (metal in the right spots). I saw a new one the other day and was shocked at the great helicopter he got for $320.

If you are on a budget the stinger is very easy on the wallet when it comes repair time.

Thanks Guys, I will be the first and only Heli pilot at my field. Think i'll take Toro's advise and go with the nitro 50 size.

Thanks,

Troy

50 is the best starting point for a beginner that is looking toward 3D flying.
If you interest is more toward scale or FAI then a 30 size will force you to learn collective management faster.

But with a name like Snap Roll and a tag line of Gettin' Lower, I'm guessing that you will lean toward 3D.

This is sound advice, you cannot beat being able to compare setups with a local pilot when you are having problems, and learn from their experience with the machine.

For your first heli it is well worth a 200 mile drive to a field with experienced pilots, or to a Fun Fly, to get help with the setup and trimming. As a beginner you have no way to know the difference between out of trim and pilot error.

yeah. if you are going to learn with a .50 size get an instructor.. Not only will it save you money - it might save your life! If you have no way at all of getting an instructor to help you with setup/flying you might want to consider something smaller and electric to start with.

My first heli was a blade cp - I learned to hover fly / loop / roll on that.. and even after that and hours of sim time I was a retard when it came to my raptor .50. If it wasn't for a buddy of mine who is a heli uber-guru going over my raptor I would have been scared to start it - let alone fly it.

Think safe man.. Planks have a flight path - helis don't.
