Holy cow batman! There are lots of us glider pilots out there! I'm into the Thermal TD contests... lots of fun being precise, making times, and ending each flight in an 18" circle *hopefully* It's a very relaxing, yet rewarding contest style. Last year I flew a Stork 2 Pro X (see avitar) and this year I'm still deciding on a new competition ship.... But the new Shadow looks to be the ticket! I'm planning on going to the US world team tryouts with a group from up here in WA.... and will also be heading to Visalia this year for the first time! I love this stuff!

www.soaringusa.com is the place to go for the nice glider and high performance electric stuff. They have the largest selection of high end molded airframes and DLG in the USA.

Toro... did you get that V tail? will it get ya fixed up? it was off a 2M blade.

a couple shots from this last years contest. We do our contests at a sod farm. Pretty nice having a 10,000x10,000 foot runway! This thing called the "walk of shame" exists though.... happens when you find all the sink WAY out there.... everyone can see you walking for the whole time....

Feb 17 & 18 The US F3B Team is holding a 2-day clinic and fly-in for F3B.

http://www.torreypinesgulls.org/What'sNew.htm

F3B is an FAI event that is comprised of 3 events, duration, speed, and distance. It is not very popular in the US due most likely to being a bit manpower intensive, but it is still very cool. The US has done well over the years despite this however.

If you are anywhere in the neighborhood, come take a look.

Also, the same weekend as the Cactus Classic (2/10-11) on the other side of Phoenix out in Queen Creek is the Southwest Classic Soaring contest. 200+ of the best (and the rest) soaring pilots in a 2-day thermal duration contest. We fly classes based on aircraft type (open, 2 meter, RES, etc) but fly heads up in each of those classes. So you are flying against the best of the best. Loads of fun!!

I enjoy catching a thermal every once in a while. I have an old 3m 2 channel floater.
