it's weird i'm 16 and i like catching thermals with my Artimis LT. most teenagers arn't patient enough, i guess. but then diving it down at like 200mph gets my adrenalin up pretty quick.

I enjoy catching a thermal every once in a while. I have an old 3m 2 channel floater.

I just started flying gliders last year. Picked up an ancient Antares and started with that. Not much of a TD ship but, did manage to get a couple of good flights on it. Most of all it taught me how to use the winch!! Coming from powered aircraft, there is a bit of a learning curve. Most importantly, make sure the sailplane is turned on!! My first contest (just to get some experience) I was so excited to fly that in the 3rd round, I forgot to turn it on. Popped off the line and proceeded to pile itself into the ground I felt like such an idiot but, was told by alot of the pilots that this usually happens at least once to new glider guiders. Anyone else done this?? C'mon fess up

Then bought myself a used Mystery Ship. Flies much nicer than the Antares. On my first flight with it I managed to find a thermal and hang out for almost 1/2 hour and not have to endure the "walk of shame"!! Needless to say I was happy with the new plane Still got a lot to learn about gliders, can't afford a glass ship yet but, definately will be getting on in the future. Flew a freinds NYX, he launched and handed me the Tx........ after about 40 minutes handed it back to him and he said "something is strange" then discovered I had been flying it while still configured for launch. hehe, Amazing machine. I'm hooked!!

I guess that's part of the reason why I like this hobby so much. So many different disciplines to explore.

Cheers,
Dave

Old Wind Junkie (AKA Joe Chovan) does alot of glider soaring all over the country. The first pic is Ferman, CA. The second is Lake Wilson, KS I think.

Joe and I had a lot of fun at Soar Utah this year flying formation off the Point of the Mountain.

I too am completely addicted. I like to travel to fly as well even through I live in the rocky mountains where there are flyable hills galore. It's still fun to head to a contest and fly with guys from all over.

The walk of shame here in CO requires Balls O steel and good hiking boots.

i did like to fly these things. the only thing i had trouble with is how fragile they were. not to mention all the guys at my locol club were extremely dorky and i didnt like to hang with them. so now i fly mostly 3d but i just put together a talon. does anybody know how it will do in 10 mph on a gentle slope?
