Cool thread!!
I learned to fly on the slope and I think it was the best thing ever. Searching for lift and being able to 'work' it back home will never replace just jamming on the throttle to escape your mistake. I have to laugh when people absoutely panic after their plane goes deadstick thinking it's going to fall out of the sky. A glider pilot just sets the correct glide slope, keeps the speed up, and cruises right in for a silent greaser.

I just finished up a fun project that is a pretty cool design. No, it's not a woody zagi, it is a little more complex than that...

great looking wing!!! your abusulty rihgt,, i try to recomend a person start offf with a glider as a trainer.. just so they learn the rules of the glide.. most cases they ignor me, thinking man gliders are boring... when i got my first real rc plane it was a 2 m gp spectra, it still flys... and the neat histroy of this plane is im the 4th owner.. its has been swaped and traded a few times before i got 5 years ago.. gliders are an art that is overlooked inthis great hobby, untell you truely fly with only the wind you will not have truely enjoyed flying.

Thanks, it is an unorthodox set up. If you look closely there are two control surfaces in the center and then separate ailerons out at the tip. The CG is just behind the center 'elevators' and they work like canards; down is 'up' and up is 'down' elevator. I have never seen a wing turn as hard and efficient as this one. They race this design in a pylon event in Germany and I translated the design and scratch built this one. I have flown it once on the slope and am outfitting it with a pusher outrunner to see how it does at speed.

Dudeness, I had no idea you were here!! He forgot to mention that he was also the Team Manager for the US F3B Team that went to Switzerland this past summer. Oh, and he races BIG planes too!!

Oh, I forgot, no secret that I like gliders too.

that is a cool wing! the idea of the conard is neat.. unfortuneatly here in ky ihave no good slopes that are very big.. or not private property haha. so im stuck hlg or mothership tows, with should be back online soon, the new tow is a 120 ultrastick with G 36 or something crazy like that haha, iv always wanted the sky king K6 for towing tho.. or a build of a big ASK13 like i used to fly for real. this current activity here makes me wanna glue up th alula and go toss something!

Ok heres a couple of pics of what Ive just started building. The DLG is called a Sofia(or a Razor) fully moulded with an empty weight of 7.3oz and a target flying weight of 11.5oz or lighter. It will have 4 waypoint 060BB servos, a 300mah AAA pack and Hyperion 4ch RX. The other on is a 2m fully moulded Kwarcinski Starling Pro. It will have 4 HS85's in the wings and 2 HS81's in the fuse.

Hi all,

This is my first post (except for the Welcome thread) and figured that this is the place to do it. I am 95% soaring junkie, thermal and aerotow, no slope only because of the lack of flayable sites around here. I hope to change that as my wife and I are planning on some serious travelling in the next couple of years.

Here are some photos of my current fleet. Don't have pics of everything and have a big backlog of kits, rebuilds, and such but this shows a descent sampling of what I fly.

Love the scale ships, Sean. That ASW looks like a monster, is it a 6M?

Hi Ryan,

The -28 is a little over 6M IIRC. I did a lot of work on that one but it does not belong to me, it's my boss'. He has a -27 w/ same. All other photos are mine. Didn't mean to throw in the ASW photo and mirepresent.

Grew up on Sailplanes and have always liked flying them and getting back to basics. Started doing a thing called Dynamic Souring a few years ago and have been having a great time. It is a growing sport that can be taken to the extreme limits. When we get wind reports of 40+ that is when things get exciting. DS Speeds have reached well over 300+. PICS, The white one is called Shockwave, as that is what it sounds like when it pounds through the boundary layer and the Wing spans 108." The yellow one is a race version which is used for the ISR (International Slope Race) it spans 118".

If any of you get a chance to check this out up close you will be in for a big surprise when you see a DS Ship fly on the wrong side of the hill.
