Well after a little break from flying, I am hoping to get back into some thermal flying this summer. Maybe even some aerotowing if funds and time allow.

Time to dust of the champion and charge the batteries.

I have been doing a lot of Aerotow, I have a 4.8m DG600, 3.3m Piper Cub for tugging, currently assembling a 5m ASG 29 (not mine) hoping to very shortly be putting together a 6m Ventus for myself, and to top it off I have just sinned further and put a tow release in my 3m C-ARF 260 so I can tow with that as well. Oh and I went slope soaring 3 weeks ago.

My Name is Mick, and I am a glider addict ..................................

Here is my newest, Baudis ASW 22 BL. Waited 5 1/2 months and it was worth the wait. Hope to have it ready for the slope and to aerotow next season.

BTW - for you SOCAL guys that want to see some soaring action there are a couple of events coming up.

The Coachella Valley RC Club (CVRC) is hosting a scale aerotow event on November 11 to 14 at their field in the Palm Springs/Indio area. Closest place is Thermal!! Should be some great soaring. This is a fun fly event but you will see some awesome scale ships along with some killer tow planes. Like a giant Wilga with a DA150 among them.

The other event in November 21st at the Field of Dreams park in San Pedro. It is a 1-day all out thermal duration soaring contest. 3 to 4 meter fiberglass and carbon fiber all molded planes are the standard. Massive loads on launch with the task to stay aloft for the precise time and stoop the clock by touching down as close as possible to a spot. Points lost for landing at a rate of 1 point for every 3 inches away. Measured to the tip of the nose of the plane. Flight time is based on points per second ranging from about 4 to 1.5 points for every second over or under the target. Scores of the top 10 usually vary by less than 20 points!!
