Hell I'm lucky that my parent's are paying for my day to day living as I go through flying school. Got a honkin big student loan to pay back eventually tho. Models are essentially self funded.

There is something Biff has always told us here. Go and do well in school and make the grades. Then go to college. Get out and get a job that will then pay for r/c airplanes. Its the grades that count now in our teenage lives. There are some of us that are lucky to have what they have.

Sorry if this is off topic, but you got that right. I did well in high school and now I am about to graduate from one of the top University in Canada with a degree in Computer Science (I finish in April). I've taken it slow with my rc purchases (only had a few parkflyers for the last few years)...don't really have alot of money while in college/university but I've already have a software developement job lined up for when I graduate that pays well so its only a matter of time before I can start getting more of what I want.

For those of you looking into college, I went to the University of Waterloo, that has a cooperate education program where you work in between school terms (schools in the States have programs like this too). So basically for the last 5 years my schedule has been 4 months of school, 4 months of work, 4 months of school, 4 months of work, etc...you don't get summers "off" but with the constant change between full time school and full time work its not so bad. Just about the time you are getting sick of school, you go work. And just when you are getting tired of work, you head back to school. Its a really great system, not only do you get loads of experience, but also money too I'm happy to say I'll be graduating this April absolutely debt free, so it won't be long before I start making money that I can dump into this hobby. I highly recommend checking into this when looking at colleges/universities and seeing what they offer.

Thats sweet Super_nova. To all here in the states wanting to go to college I suggest applying early to all grant programs. I have a grant or 2 thats going to allow me to get through with out to much dept. I cant stress enough about applying early. The grants run out and you don't want to miss out.

Ya Blancky... you'll have a blast with it! And if you let me fly it I may even scare you again like I did with the Electric Shok!

A big plane would be too much of a hassle right now as you need transport first

Can't wait for summer to come so that we can go fly.

Well,
this is my 1st post so far in FG forums.
I am 19-1/2 now.
I started at 17 with a Hobbico Avistar and an OS 46 LA upfront.
It seemed to me that i was the happiest boy in the world after i took it from my LHS!
I was correct....for some months!!!
Until some months before my parents were 100% "helping" me with my airplanes.
Ofcourse,
i wouldn't ever imagine wake up some day and ask my father give me 200euros.
NOOO!
He was always giving me when he had!
Now,
after a Great Planes Super-sportster,
a Great Planes UcAnDo 46
and
a Venus that isn't yet completed,
because in the next days my OS 70FS will be home,
i am working,
and i am thinking seriously to take a Great Planes 232 81'' wingspan ARF CAP.
It's sp different to have your own money!
Ofcourse,
my parents will always be part of my world!
Stay will less $$ for some years,
study,
grow up,
and enjoy the real 50cc class...
Then life has a meaning!!!!!

Have a nice day there!

Im 16 and my parents help me out - mainly my dad as he flys with me too. Last year he went to all of my IMAC contests with me and called for me at every one except for one because he had to work. I have a real good buddy in Indianapolis, IN that flys gas and if I do some work for him, then he gives me a plane to fly. I recently went half n half with him on a 102" QQ Yak - he bought the airframe and I already had a DA 100 and some electronics from my 34% Columbo Anderson Extra that went in at an IMAC last year. I live in Ohio and he comes out here and flys with us every now and then so the Yak is here so he doesnt have to bring any planes when he comes out. My dad normally buys stuff that we both can use such as a transmitter for all our planes so it is for me and him and not just me . . . . My dad is a real big support along with my mom, step mom and step dad as they see I have a future in some type of aviation. A lot of my stuff (rx, servos, batteries, ect.) I ask for as Christmas or birthday gifts. This year I got some wingbags for my 35% Carden Extra (Been workin on with buddy from Indy for over a year now) along with a couple foamies . . .

As far as transportation goes I dont need any for one - I have my liscense and for two I fly in my backyard.

Also concerning school, my high school offers whats called Post Secondary which is where you spend half of the day at your high school then for the next half you go to a regular college and earn actual college credits. My school offers this your junior and senior year in high school. Next year I am going to do this (Im a sophmore now) and I would like to have an associate's degree by the time high school ends so I will only have 2-4 more years of college after, and then go into work.

bro sorry for being an ass...do what u can, make some sacrifices and work for what you want. keep stabbing at it and you will eventually get it. it took me 6 years to get my 50cc plane and i apreciate every part of it. as mentioned in a previous post, pick up something second hand from a guy at your field, its a little better bet!

I've in the hobby for 4 years, 2 years r\c and no where I've I ever thought of even being able to afford a big plane. On top of food, my daily expenses, I've only got a few bucks left to save up. Do your parents like pay it for you completely. I've got 2 seperate jobs that I work, and it's just enough to squeeze by sometimes.

Now for the first time I can get a 50cc plane but won't get an engine for it till the month of august, and then theres all the radio compartments i'll need to get for it... . I don't even know if I should get this... but the feel of having a big plane is pretty sweet though. The only reason though that I can afford this is that the school is giving me a 2 weeks work experience, so thats where the money is coming from...

How often do they help you out to get to the feild? Or even stay and watch you fly, and see what you can do. Mine are all like, ill take you to the feild but you'll need to find another way back, or vice versa. If I do get a ride over and back, which I am very lucky to get every 2 months, they start bit%^&g and say thats all I get from them for the next while...

How about you guys?

Thanks

LeBlanc
I wouldent be in this hobby if it wassent for my dad he gets me to and from the feild gets everything set up on the plane builds most of it my dad helps prolly more then her really needs to but we are a father/son team so we help eachother out alot

i am thankfull enough that my dad suports me 100% in all that i do. i have been flying for almost 3 years and have competed for 2 and a half of them. My dad goes every weekend with me to the field and we try to make it during the week right now he has bought me 2 top of the line 40%ers one is a 3w votec and the other is a 3w yak. i cant thank him enough. i am very lucky for being only 16. In the past 3 years i was lucky enough to get sponsored by cactus aviation and also fromeco but still no sponsor is better then your family.
