Your best bet with a 40% that is good for Imac or other competions in my opinion is the Wh Extra.

The best airplane for 3D is not the airplane at all, its the fingers on the sticks with proper computer input (brain)

A guy built a 160"WS profile for a 150cc. I saw the pics somewhere. That would be the best for 3D only. Form follows function...LOL

I have a 40% Carden Cap too and like it alot.
There seems to be a new way of thinking in our area though, that if you don't have one of the newer airframes, you just aren't with it. What do the new planes like SD, Comp Arf etc. have that the older planes don't have? Is it the bigger ailerons and the like? Anyway, maybe my cg is bit aft, but the plane carries a little down elevator and I don't know why? It does upright harriers great, but the inverted stuff is a little lacking. Can you guys do smooth graceful inv waterfalls for example? I can bury the elevator upright, but it just feels different when inverted. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

Only one plane was originally desiged with a wing that substantially delayed the onset of a stall, which makes 3D maneuvering better and easier. That's the Edge. Although a well laid out Cap is a formiddable design, they always have more coupling issues than any plane out there. They take a lot of time and effort to work out. The Sukhoi and Yak were originally designed around competition precision aerobatics, with the Yak being a less expensive alternative to the Sukhoi but not quite as capable. That should offer some clues to 3D intentions between the two. The advances in the Extra were to combat the bad qualities in the Cap 232, again for precision aerobatics.
Ultimately I believe what some others have already stated. With enough practice and in the hands of a capable pilot it doesn't matter which one you have. |

I personally love the way the 37.5% SD Yak flies 3D.

I agree with the guy who said, "the best plane to 3D is the plane you've got."
If you're going to build a kit, the Carden builders have some great techniques for lightening the planes, especially the empenage areas. ![]() Papa Stek has some great Carden building tips to keep you going the right direction. Good luck!
