Default Hanger 9 Extra 260 with Saito 220 on it?

I know some of you guys have an the Hanger 9 Extra 260 with a Saito 220 on it for power. I am building one now with that engine. I have a couple of questions:
1. How did the plane balance? did you have to add any noise wieght?
2. What did you do about the muffler, did you have to add tubing to the muffler or cut a hole in the cowl for the muffler?
3. How does the plane fly, enough power?

Thanks for the help.

it looks like I will have to add about 24 oz of weight to the nose. Is this normal for this plane with this engine?

Where do you have the rudder servo mounted , tail or up in fuse on pull pull. I am curious to i have one to build and if that is the case on that much lead up front i might as well go with a small gasser .

I talk to Horizon Hobbies about this problem. They said with a Saito 180 you would have to add about 18-20oz of weight to the nose.

has anyone else had to do this?

I have to add 0 weight to balance. I have the battery in the stock location (per the instruction manual), and it balances great.

Here are some pics of mine. After flying with the battery on the fuel tank, it has been moved back next to the receiver for proper balance. It was nose heavy with the battery where it is in the pic.

That is the set up I have also, you did not have to add any weight though, right?
How does the plane fly with the 220 on it?

I did not have to add any weight. It flies awesome with the 220. Tons of power and she just floats around.

Thanks. I must be doing something wrong on the balancing part. I will have to go back and recheck. Did you balance as the book said?

I started there and that is why the battery was up front for the first few flights.

As far as balanceing your plane here is something you might want to look at i posted it on a previous post and have gotten a ton of emails saying how simple and easy it was and how correct it was.
I have a G-62 all hitec servos, smoke system and two batt. and no extra weight was added at all.

the guy who tought me how to fly many years ago had the most simplest way to balance any plane to big to use a CG stand with and he used this methed on all of his planes. and that was to use the simple string methed. by placing the string in the center of the plane left to right and at the right cg location front to back u can get the all over balance including side-to-side and front-to-back all at once. i have used this methed on all my planes 90 sized and up. even on my 27% & 30% extras and also on my 1/3 scale f4u corsair. and all have test flew with very little trim changes. what a lot of people forget about is left and right balance is also important to a great flying plane.

the way i look at it if i can get the balance right with out burning up all my brain cells by all the math calculations ( because that was done by all the partying in collage )
then i am all for it.
i mark the cg on the correct points on the inside of the body and with a piece of alum. i make a bracket that has a eyelet in it, i mark the center of the piece of alum and the center of the body(side to side) and line the marks up keeping the eyelet centered on the cg mark and in the center of the plane. and useing a good qualty string i hang it from the work shop rafter keeping the table under the plane just as a safty measure. on the top end of the string i have a d-clip for easy hooking and unhooking. i have done this with planes weighing up to 25#'s (the heavest one i have so far is 25#'s)

here is some pics to try to help show ya how its done. and if you want to get it perfict then after you get it level left to right then you can sit the hatch on the plane just to the side of were it goes but in the correct position front to back so that you can get the effect of the hatch if any. but this is a very simple way to balance your planes that are to big or to heavy for the standard cg balancer and unlike them you can get the left to right at the same time. hope this helps you understand and you find it as simple and easy as i do.
