I am at the stage of mounting a motor on my newly aquired Carden Cap..I am using a DA-150 and i need to know what swb mount to get as i see 4 different degrees of right thrust. 0,2,2.5, and 3 . anyone got any suggestions? the motor box is built per the plans, so no right thrust has been added.
Thanks! |

I would start with 2 1/2 SWB. He gives you different size washers so you can make it 3 degrees if needed. You will also need a little up thrust with the Cap.

Ok I have this problem with my new Cap. Dennis and SWB say 2 1/2 degrees of right for the plane. But when we mounted my motor this weekend it made the whole motor sit to the right of the cowl. Its way off more than a 1/4 of an inch and looks like crap. I'm thinking about saying the heck with the right thrust and just put it at 0 degrees so it all matches up. I'm not going to be flying IMAC with the plane so I figured since I know how to use my rudder I'll just correct with my rudder on the up/down lines.

I'd re-drill the holes in the firewall to get the 2.5 degrees. Otherwise, you'll be laying hard on that right rudder when doing hi alpha stuff.

Re drill the firewall to fit and dowel the old holes!!! 0 up and 2.5 right and all you will need is 7% ELEV to Rud and your all set... Here is the best shot i have of the front of mine, It has 2.5 right in it. |

Your SWB mount has vertical and horizontal center lines indented on the mount. When looking at the nose from the front, the vertical lines should be in the neighborhood of 7/16th's to the right from a centerline drawn on F1. I usually lay out a center of the firewall vertical line and another one 7/16th's to the right of it for the mount location. Your going to have a fine flying plane, it would be a shame to leave the thrust incorrect. I've buggered up a few and its not a big deal to dowel in the holes and re-drill it correctly as previously mentioned. Its worth the fix...

Well, I went over to my builders shop before even checking on what others had said about the holes. We redrilled the holes, put dowels in the old holes and now the spinner and cowl are perfect. I thought it was going to be hard but it was really easy. Everything is pretty much done on mine now. Just have to set up the radio gear and then off to the field. Probably wont maiden it until I get back from my ski trip. The plane is looking awesome. I am stoked about it again now that the cowl and spinner are better looking.

Mine is set at 2.5 degrees, and is perfect. Don't even consider not putting right thrust in it.
