Anybody out there flying this plane with the ZDZ 50NG? Just looking to find out what size standoffs I'll need. Thanks.

Anyone? Or do I even need them? Just wanted to get them ordered before hand so I don't have to wait.

I had a 50NG on my first yak, I can't rember if I was using 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 standoffs. I think I still have them laying around some where i'll take a look.
Edit: they are the 1 1/4 ones that I used and had the prop pretty close to the cowl, just over a finger's width or so. You might want to use the 1 1/2's to set the engine out a little more and help with cg as well, because mine had everything mounted as far foreward as possible to cg properly. After a very long time of not having anything smaller then 35% I decided it was time for a 50cc bird. With the amount of offerings out there it was quite hard to decide which one. Yes there are some newer, lighter designs then the SD Yak out there but I decided to go with one that has been proven time and time again. I didn't feel like being a test pilot in anyway. When I saw that the Team Scheme was available on the 30% I instantly put my order in. Jason Reddish and Garrett Morrison have been extremely helpful and made ordering the plane a breeze.
I realize that there's been a ton of these already built and lots of threads on them, So I'm Not gonna do a full on assembly thread here, just will share some pics as I go. Received the plane today in the Team Scheme and it's extremely well put together and covered. No wrinkles to speak of(yet, lol). Hardware looks to be completely usable on it. I will however be changing out the aluminum tubes, gear and spinner for CF. I expect to save at least a 1-1.5lbs by doing this. Also the fuel tank seems to come with a black stopper, which as far as I know is neoprene and not usable with gasoline, so I'll be sure to swap that out for a gas compatible stopper. The only thing I would change in the way the plane is built so far is the vertical fin fairing in the turtle deck. If you look in the one picture, you'll see what I believe is a solid block of balsa back there. You can actually feel the weight of it when holding the fuse. Other then that it's very well built and lightened every. First thing I always do with a built up winged ARF is to check down inside for broken ribs. This is the first ARF I've bought with built up wings that didn't have a single broken rib or any loose wood rattling around inside the wings. The paint work on the cowl is also top notch, without a single run or non-crisp paint line on it. Having a cowl ring on a 30% airplane is a nice touch . Power will be a ZDZ 50NG with a JMB Cannister spinning a Vess 23A prop which I expect should provide plenty of get up and go for this bird. Servos will be JR 8611's all the way around with Fromeco batts and regulators, a 4800 for the RX and a 2400 for the ignition. And of course before I could start I had to tag it with some FG vinyl.

Jeeum, looks great. Did not really do anything to help you out though
If your looking for some really light gear the SD carbon gear is very lite and strong. They make a good tailwheel as well. I believe there is a guy selling carbon wing and stab tubes on RCU from Taiwan that people are buying. They seem to have good luck with the product and the person selling them.Garrett Morrison |

Jeeum, that looks like the guy off hand. I have no experience with him or the product. Just saw it on a thread over at RCU. Make sure you measure your wing and stab tubes exactly. If they are short then the wing tube will not lock into the retaining socket.

If you buy the alumminum fuel cap from Sullyvan, it comes with a black stopper for gasoline, and a white stopper for glow fuel, and I've also seen other brands that use the black stopper for gasoline.
