Hello, i am building a Composite ARF Extra 330 powered by a ZDZ 80 RV (Black line), I don't know what is the best position to mount the engine. Any suggestion? Anyone have some photos of similar setup?
Thanks in advance, Luca. |

Lucacioc.
Attached are four photyos of the install. You can see I cut the top out of the Engine mount cone to get good access to the needles. It makes it easy as I find the ZDZ takes a while to get just right. The hole I cut after marking out the bolt pattern which comes with the engine. If not make one out of cardboard so you get your offset perfect first time. There are lots of tricks to get the offset done nice so it lines up with the cowl. One is to hang your plane off a ladder or such, fit the cowl and set the engine up inside. When you have it where you want it drip some CA on the stand offs and then drill them. I use Murphys law and measure it out on the fire wall. If I need to move the engine around later on to get the offset right then I do it with spacers. There are some visible in the pictures. This is an overpowered package and I have no qualms in saying that. If there was a seriously lighter 55 or 60 cc engine it would hammer this thing. Mine is nose heavy and I have 6oz of lead on the tail wheel. It flies nice just the same but watch the eweight in the front end. It would be my intention next time to mount the rudder servo tray way back about six to ten inches from where it is now. Hope these help. Kiwi |

This is what it looks like inside. I have made some changes since this picture was taken and will post it after I do some static testing on the setup tomorrow.

Darcy.
The PE to me is like like trying to drink beer out of a bottle without taking the top off. I would never ever build another plane without it, even if it was a simple setup which the 2.3 is. I have a million reasons why I like them, none the least being it tidies up the installation and I have never had a lockout or a glitch since using them. And before that Darcy I was plagued with misterious hits and glithes. Thy are just like a prop on an engine to me. Part of the basic plane. You should try one. Kiwi |
