What canister and header is that? It doesn't look like the standard JMB. Also, does it have the 30mm inlet?

Thanks,

Neo

Luca,

That thing is going to be ballistic with the new ZDZ. One thing I did not say about mine is it needed a few oz of lead on the tail wheel bracket to get it trimmed right.

Other than that it is a pocket rocket. Small enough to transport easily.

One problem I have with mine is the canopy does not fit nicely into the fuselage. It either sticks up at he front or is too high at the back. I choose to keep the back lined up as it is much more obvious and let the canopy protrude a little obove the fuselage at the front.

Keep this build thread coming. It really looks great.

That is one really pretty looking Extra mate.

As for the first flight and that nagging question : why didnt I do this before????

Well thats just part of the game.

Theres always a better mouse trap available and the problem is the best ones not built yet.

Nice looking plane, don't think that I am being picky here. Noticed your RX ariel running down the side of your fuse. I have one on my CompArf 40% Extra. There is a company in Australia that supplies whip antenna's which you could mount just behind the canopy on top of the fuselage and it would look sweet.
You can cut it to the length you wanted. Check it out you will probably like it.

I just wanted to know why you guys put the ZDZ Super 80 in the Comp-Arf 2.3 when you could have gone with the 2.6 and have better wing loading and a bigger plane and would still have good power.

Wouldn't the 80 on the 2.3 kill the wing loading making it hard for 3d? Also people have put 3W 75 on the 2.6 and they could Hover it and do 3D because the engine is so light. I would like to get a plane for a ZDZ 80 Super but i am not sure what to get, so I am very interested in planes to put it in.

I had the 2.3 with a DA 50 and a pipe. All up weight weighed actually slightly more than the 80 setup. It was marginal for 3D but flew precsion well. With the 80 it actually works out well, as the extra weight up front is functional. I had to add 8 oz of lead to the nose to get it to balance with the pipe. From what I hear the 80 is great for this thing. I think Kiwi has one with an 80 on it.

Kiwi did have one with an 80cc ZDZ in it but it is now the proud property of another giants member.

I sold my 2.6 YAK and the 2.3 Extra this year to clear the stable and get some room for a 260. I'm waiting with baited breath for C-ARF to bring out a 2.6 260 and I will fit it with an EVO 80cc on pipe.

When that happens you guys will be the first to know.

As for the 80cc in the 2.3 extra it fits like a glove, you need no weight to balance it and it is ballistic. Its not overpowered at all and that was using a standard muffler of course. With the Super 80 RV I can only imagine how it performs.

I’m putting together a 2.3, and I noticed that on the elevator halves, one has more movement than the other by about ¾ inch. The blockage is in the hinge assembly. The hinge arms bang into the end of the hinge slots, so I so I did a little dremel work on the slots, and got them pretty close. My question is, how much elevator throw is necessary to do decent 3d maneuvers? I will probably put the CG back at the max in accordance with the directions. What CGs are being managed for 3d flight? Maybe I did not have to do anything, maybe just limit the other elevator? I plan on scraping the factory rudder, and radio mounting system, and placing my ruder and batteries in a location that best balances the model. Another question is, has anyone placed the gas tank in the belly under the wing spar, I’m thinking of trying this for two reasons; It will give me more room for a hand on the nylon wing holds, and assembly will be easer, just use a couple of end plates, foam padding, and use the spar to hold it down. I have the ZDZ 80, and I’m wondering if it will affect engine operation being several inches under the carb, I suspect not, these engines pump gas fairly well.

Hi , I am preparing all the things for my C-ARF EXTRA 330 2.3m plane. First I thought it will fly overpower with DA 50 and tune pipe, I have bought the carbon wing&stab tube to reduce the weight but then Darcy WINGO told me that ZDZ 80 RVJ will fit more than DA 50 to my flying style. By the way I like 3 d flying and trying to hover on the deck.
So I have a question; any of you has the dimensions&diameter of the new ZDZ 80RVJ to mount it on a doom. As you know there is only DA 50 shown on original manual.
Pictures or dimensions will be welcome
Thks

either RCShowcase (USA)- or Amelung models (Germany) has this info
actually the non J engine has plenty of power for this model as for the 50 powered ones - I never spoke with anyone who tried that setup -who actually liked it. th model is just too heavy.

I have just started to build my 2.3 m extra. As seen on pictures elevator up throws more than down throws. Is it normal? or I am doing something wrong??
