One of the Imac guys down here has done this setup (MVVS 58)
and its a pretty sweet combo . Sounds good , looks good and has
plenty of power . The only prob is that its the same weight as the
ZDZ 80 so why not just go for the bigger cc .

Stu's right. I have a 2.3 with a ZDZ60RV and is perfect for what i do (IMAC Basic) an i think it will get me though Sportsman. But for anything with power sapping snaps etc on uplines it will have to go on a pipe or swap with an 80.

Jamieman I like the avitar!!! I really like that color scheme. It's too bad they dont offer it w/o the JR logo for us Futaba flyers.
Anyway my question is this, I know it would be way overkill but will this plane balance with the DA-85? Also will it fit inside the cowling without having the hack the cowling up? I am thinking of trying the Futaba or the JR scheme (even though I fly Futaba) 2.3 and putting the DA-85 on it as I plan on upgrading to the 2.6m Yak in a couple years
and I have been told that the DA-85 with a pipe flies the 2.6 very good. So I want a package that I can transfer from the 2.3 over to the 2.6. Hope this makes sense.

Shawn

Shawn, that would be a pretty lethal combo!! If the reason you are doing it is so you can carry the 85 over to a 2.6 then there is no reason you cant just use a little throttle control on the 2.3 so as not to break it. You could just use a pitts on the 2.3 but would definately need a pipe on the 2.6.
We saw the 85 fly at the Bendigo masters & it was very impressive.

Cheers Jamie

PS JR schemes are pretty rare over here

I just ordered a DA-85 to go in my 2.3 Extra... If either of them ever get here, I'll need some advise on fitting this thing in the cowl. I think I may take the easy route and just mount it inverted with a Pitts muffler. I just don't think there's any way to get a suitable canister inside the plane.

There lots of folks flying 3W 75 and ZDZ 80 engines in these planes, and the DA-85 is quite a bit lighter than the 3W.. not sure about the ZDZ.

Anyway, if you get the 85 for your 2.3... be sure and take some pictures for the rest of us
