Here's the one I just built from a kit and modified into a 300s. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 36-37 lbs on this one.

Hi Randy,
A 150 was the biggest engine on the market for a long time so that is what the 40%was designed around. With all the new engines on the market and more coming, I would love to see it with upwards of a 200. it would be balistic and the plane can handle it. Kevin and I set up two 40% Extra's last year with DA 150's on tuned pipes. All I can say is S**t the plane just got better. Picked up 400rpm on a 3 blade. It lacked nothing!!!. We fly DA, There are other good brands with great power. I don't think you will go wrong with whatever you choose. A 30 x 12 on DA 150 gives it good pop out of a hover if your into 3D Al Al

I also try to stay out of these things, but since the other guys thought it appropriate to comment then I guess I ought to make my case too. The Wild Hare Extra 300 was designed only about a year ago and has several features not available in other planes. Probably most significant is the "pocket hinging" system where the control surface leading edges are recessed into a pocket to keep the flying surface very smooth. All hinging is completed at the factory, the latest versions have brass busihings in the hinges to assure smooth trouble free operation. Two wing tube locations allow you to balance it easily with either light or heavy engines and with or without canisters. An integrated 3 servo rudder tray will save $$$ installing ganged servos. The huge canister tunnel will support just about anything. The cowl mounts easily on a cowl ring with no visible fasteners. Canopy is tinted. The pro version has two sets of elevators, one counterbalanced and one scale. This was done for the plane to be permitted to fly at the 2006 Masters where real scale appearance is required. It allows you to switch between two setups, one optimized for precision and one for 3d. The Wild Hare Extra 300 is in it's 3rd build cycle and all the bugs are squashed. It competed at the 2006 Masters and also the 2006 Tucson Aerobatic Shootout, plus several IMAC contests in 2006. It's a proven plane. The list of features goes on and on. Typical weight with DA-150 and stock mufflers is 37-37.5 lbs. Our customers have told me it's the best 3d plane they have ever flown. Most give it a 10 for 3d and a 9 for precision. It's supported by me and my wife. Check around to see who has the best customer support. Oh, and by the way. The Wild Hare plane is $300 less expensive than the "brand J" Extra 300. thanks tom and al, i want you guys to tell us what you have and what you think about it. i value what both of you have to say. it is still a hard call for me to make, there are several good planes out there and good people to buy them from. i feel that the people we buy from and there support is more important than the planes we fly. by that i am saying there alot of plane that fly so well that the real diff is the people that support them. thanks again for stepping up and speaking up.

Just FYI, I tend not to jump into these things because on other sites that is a big taboo. But you are always welcome to call or email me for specifics.

Randy, I have flown the Wild Hare and It fly great. I flew one of the prototypes several times. It would 3D with any of the other ARFs or Kits out there. I have also seen the Aeroworks 42% 260 prototype fly. I did not fly it, but I know it only took a few clicks trim on its maiden flight. It looked like it flew great. I think both WH and AW have excellent customer service. I own a 35% 260 QB and traded for a 42% 260 OB and I am partners on a WH 41% 300. I have no experience with any other 40% ARFs Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions. Andy

I tend to steer away from the (B)ARF's. I got bit in the hind end by an ARF. So I tend to be a bit timid around them. Having sad that, I have looked at the WH and the JTec ARF's online. Both seem to have all the quality built in that I would typically have my custom builder do for me. Both seem to have all the necessary lightening mods we would 90% of the time do to our "kit builds."
I don't think that you could even go wrong with either of these............ I would go with either of these if, and big IF I were getting into 40% size stuff........
