After building numerous kits & ARF's for myself and many other people, I finally decided to do a build thread - Hey why not.
What is the difference with a Canadian build? Not much except our winters are longer and we don't have to build as fast. I picked up my kit which Tony of Dalton Aviation shipped via UPS to Buffalo N.Y. and then promptly returned home to Brampton (just a few miles west of Toronto). Using Buffalo for shipping and delivery saves on taxes and customs brokerage. The following pics show what you get when you open the box which is very well packed Pic #1 Total parts Pic #2 the precision laser cutting Pic #3 Great fiberglass work |

The first several hours were spent familiarizing myself with the parts and determining the correct order to assemle the motor box. It will only go together oneway. I them lightly filed off the charred wood from the laser cutting at all glue points on the 1/4" plywood. Just want to make sure the glue penetrates the wood for strength. Pic #4 shows the motor box with no glue. Now I can start building tomorrow morning and this kit should move along quickly

I'll have to check that out sometime. My girlfriend lives in Mississauga, and I'm thinking of moving down there at some point this year, you guys mainly fly big birds? Can't wait to see this build, gotta love those dalton extras! Biff, I think London is about 1.5 - 2 hours from brampton

Brampton is 20 minutes from the Toronto Inter. airport or 1 hour and 20 minutes east of London on the #401 hwy, maybe quicker depends on your driving skills. Are field is located about 4 miles north of the 401 on Winston Churchill Blvd. I fly in London once in a while at the Forestcity flyers it's a very active club. If you're ever in the Toronto area let us know ahead of time Biff, were always a little thirsty here!
Just ask the Guys from St Pete's, Florida.

Hey Gary, nice to see a fellow Canuck Build
What made you decide on the Dalton over say an Aerotech kit. There is a big price difference esp when you consider the free shipping that Aerotech was having lately. I love building, but this year (even with the long winter lay over) I don't have time, so its ARF land for me. Do you compete in IMAC? We're gonna have an awesome season in the North Central zone this year and in Ontario in particular....hope to see you in some contests...esp. ours Capcanuck Co-CD NOIC (Northern Ontario IMAC Challenge) |

Not sure if Gary is selling the "260" or keeping it. I will try and talk him into keeping it. It's sure to be a beauty, as are all his builds. Gary just completed this 42% Aerotech 300 Extra for me.

I decided to build a Dalton kit simply because I hadn't built one and I had just finished a 42% Aerotech Extra for Greg. Both are great kits and both should be terrific in the air. The Dalton kit should be a real quick build.
Thx Gary Sorry ,I should have added no I don't compete in IMAC. I'm just a fly for fun guy and your right it should be an awesome season in Ontario with the big August contest. Last edited by Gary Kennedy; 02-04-2007 at 10:14 AM. |

Hello,
Nice job Gary. Biff as Dave Carr says. Every road from the airport leads to Brampton. So you can't get lost. We will be up ther this year. The people welcomed Mike and myself as brothers. So we look forward to August. Take Care John www.aerotech-rcmodels.com |

Hey John, thx for the complement. You're dead right.. Brampton is the easiest place or at least the friendliest place to find. The beer is the coldest also.
We will look after you guys. Biff if you are heading up our way send me a pm and we can get a few guys together to welcome you. thx Gary |

Today being Super Sunday, I didnt get as much done as I thought. Other chores to take care of. do we have enough beer to make it thru the game etc.. By the way congrats to the Colts fans.
I did manage to get the motor box and side frame supports all glued together, the tail support glued and added the stringers to tie the front of the plane to the tail. All formers are now glued to the base and the wiring tubes installed. Doing the stringers should now be real easy. The pics show where were at. Sorry for the edit but the pics didn't go anywhere.
