Default Gy401 VS. Jr 500T

I was looking into gyro's for a T- Rex 450 sa, and now i have to pick between a Futaba gy401 or a JR 500T. What is the major differences, and what do you recomend? Thanks.

Either one is very good. The ideal gyro/servo combos are 401/9254 and 500T/8700G. The 500T combo is a little better if you are into advanced 3d, but the 401 combo is more popular and a little less money. 75% of flyers will never notice the difference. That's for bigger birds. On my mini titan I'm running a logictech 2100t/futaba 9650 servo. Holds great, but has little bounce at the end of piro's that no one seems to be able to figure out. I think it holds much better than my 401 did on my trex.

I like the 401's personally. I guess that is why I own 3 401's.........

The 401 and the 9650 is AWESOME on the TRex!!!

The 401/9650 combo is great in a T-Rex. I've been through a bunch of servos and gyros in the T-Rex, and it's the best I've tried. Easy to setup, and holds very well. I haven't tried the 500 in a T-Rex, but I did have one in a Caliber a while back, and it was also a very good gyro, I just prefer the 401. The earlier suggestion on the Logictech gyro (you can get them from Heliproz) is a good one, I've never read a bad word about them, just a lot of raving. My next new gyro will be one of those or the CSM 720, just to try something new.

Now when you say it holds well, what kind of flying are you doing? I find that the 401 is great going forward but going backward (especially fast) it doesn't hold as well and will occasionally blow out if you aren't on top of it. Of course thats in a nitro bird, I haven't tried it much on anything smaller...

I have a 500T in my shuttle. I havnt had any problems with it what so ever. The set up (or lack there of for that matter) couldnt be easier, its basically a plug in, check to make sure its direction is correct, and fly! If you have an open channel with a knob on your radio, use the remost gain wire. On each side of neutral on the knob is the sensitivity for either rate or HH, so by turning the knob past zero, it will switch into a different mode and you can adjust the sens from there....

As for backwards flying; I really havnt done anything super fast with it but I have yet to see any tendancies to 'blow out.'
