Default Prices?

How many of you think a new 50cc ARF is worth $600.00 or more? I know there are some out there that dont cost that much, but what about the ones that do. Are they really worth that much more?

A couple of planes go that extra mile to be in the top of their class, so yes, I believe that some planes are worth their price tag. Then there are some that are lower price, but people enjoy them all the same or even better because if something happens to the plane they aren't out $700 (with shipping) to get a new airframe.

The price of a 50cc plane has got way out of hand. RTF $1800.00 to $2500.00 and higher. This is crazy. But we still do it. My sons car cost less than my last plane.

I guess you have to ask yourself can you build one for less? Can you do the qaulity that they do?By the time you paint, cover, buy glues, and buy hardware will it cost less?
I doubt it.
Then you have to add in that they know that we are a busy world and that we do not have as much time to build as we used to.
If you add up cost of balsa, covering, foam, fiberglass cowl and wheel pants, and paint they seem pretty cheap.
Do I like the prices for 50cc aircraft? No.

I just shop around on classifieds till a come across someone that has a brand new arf sitting around and is getting out of the hobby dirt cheap. Like I picked up a 36% aeroworks Katana for 475. They cost around 1200 shiped. When I went to pick it up he still even had it in the box that they came from the factory unopened. Just look for the deals they are out there.

Ya I have a dirtbike that cost 2500$ and its got a 230cc motor.
I think that if the plane is done correctly, with mono/ultracote, good complete hardware, wheels, tank, spinner, and is fairly prebuilt to the point were all you do is put your stuff in it e.g. AW's QB's and aviation model stuff. I could see paying 600-700$. B ut to put something in perspective I bought the GP CAP 580 from me sponsor for under 700$ and it had everything and it is all good stuff, hell it even had servos arms, fuel tube, and even standoffs, it is 80-100cc. I thought it was pretty good considering what it could of come with.

Personally, I think "yes", every penny of it. Consider spending 50 - 60% of that for a kit built airplane, then 3 - 4 months of work getting it ready, then watching it rekit itself. I did lots of that earlier in my modeling career. Much easier watching someone else labor go poof!

BTW, the BME 50 I bought last year was about the same as a BME 44 I bought 8 or 9 years ago. Seems like an ok deal to me.

No is my answer. Ecspecially when you can find the 'exact' same plane under a different brand name (with diff. hardware) for lots less!! Sometimes less than half!!! It's too bad really, as it hurts some co's profit dollar, but I have seen it on quite a few different models. I personally like to take the time to find quality kits at better prices, they might need better gear and such but you can equip it as neccessary.
However with that said, in most cases if you pay for the higher priced kits, you will recieve much better hardware, tubes and gear.
I do own higher priced kits myself, But I also own a couple cheaper 30% & 46% 'copies' & they turned out great!! And I had to get better gear and tubes!!

I have bought 3 arf's in the last 2 years...one cost 400$ and had a warped wing tip, wing incidence was off by 3 degrees on 1 side and 3 degrees off on the stabs, cowl mounting holes did not line up, wing tube was heavy aluminum and hardware was marginal...The last 2 arfs were about 650$ CF tubes, top notch Rocket City hardware, wing, fuse, stab bags..everything fit perfectly, lighter construction..100% better quality...

You get what you pay for... it's holds true on these as much as anything. Cheap plane are just that, cheap. Quality is hard to measure on an ARF, but it's therein many hidden ways. When you pay $650 and get CF wing tubes, bags, good hardware, and a known sound airframe that will last, it is worth it...
