Here is some info on the current location of the Belle...

http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/que...pic.asp?id=510

When the Belle was originally moved to Mud Island Park in Memphis, I was chosen to be one of the 6 RC pilots that got to fly from the tip of the Island during the dedication. I was only 12 or so at the time but I loved every minute of it. My buddy, Milton Dickey, had a 1/3 scale Laser at the time. He mounted one of the first small video cameras on a dummy hatch on top of the plane and recorded a couple 15 minute flights from the island.... The footage is incredible : )

Even though the Belle is now gone from Memphis/Millington we are still going to honor it and keep the name for the fly-in. Many people are use to the Belle Classic name that we figured changing it would hurt attendance and make it a forgotten event.

Hope you guys can make it.

I think the Memphis Belle is in a good place now!

I hated to see the Belle go, but Col. Morgan wanted her back with the Air Force. I'd rather see it in China and preserved, than in Memphis and rotting. King Willy sure wasn't going to do squat.... I was talking with one of the guys who helped work on it in Memphis, and he was saying that when the Air Force is done, it will be flyable. It will never fly again, but it would be capable.

To clue everyone in, King Willy is the Mayor of Memphis. He has his own little "agenda". Most recently, it's been closing a the city's only planetarium (which turned a profit for the city), and building a new taxpayer-funded basketball stadium when we still owed 30 million on the other one. Several of his friends were contractors on the new stadium, and the parking garage has one whole floor and a bus depot missing. Even though that bus depot and top floor were payed for. That one just got shoved under the rug.

I too am pleased the Belle is headed to an extreme make over. I saw the plane on Mud Island and was hurt to see a piece of history in that condition. Sounds like the King needs a swift kick in the keister!

Jack.. shame on you. Grand Pu-Bah Willy is always looking out for the city's best interest.. Thats not saying all of his ex con buddies are making six figures, but we all deserve a second, third or fourth chance... always trying to keep a dawg down

I personally hated to see the Bell go.. I think it could have been another asset to one of memphis's new section 8 housing complexes. Or better yet mabye on the playground of one of Ricky Peet or John Ford's so called daycare centers

What are they thinking

Yes, it goes on Sat and Sun, the majority of out of towners will leave at noon on Sunday if we have any that show up tomorrow.

How old is your daughter?

Mine turns 1 next month on the 30th.
