I've had version 1 and 2 of the Egde, and version 1 of the 300s. The V-2 flies lighter than anything I've seen of similar size. Mine's weighs on a fish scale at 17 plus, but feels and flies like it's 16 or less. Taurus 3.2 swinging a Menz "S" 22-8 at a clean 7,500 in mine. Stock J&A Pitts wrap around.

The plane is just supid fun to fly and easy to 3d. You can parachute this plane into a full stop landing after dropping from 200' straight up. No wing rock in the parachute, steers easy in harrier, hovers all day, and easy to harrier roll. If the wings are rockin' in a harrier you need to calm your thumbs down because that's where it's comin' from. All manuevers stop instantly when you get off the stick. Does not EVER drop a wing in a stall. There's nothing not to like. The 28% Edge v-2 is flat out BAD ASS!

The main wings are built up and very, very light. The horizontal stabs are sheeted foam.

I had the Extra 300 and it was pretty light out of the box. If your looking for a good engine set up the 3W 50 is a good fit. If you want more power then go with the 3W55. When I get mine back, I think I might put the 55 on.
For mine I had hitec 5945 servos on all surfaces.

Gee guys, I did not know about this thread until somebody emailed me.

I have included some other photos, I wish I had more but people bought up the first shipment so quickly now I don't have one to photograph.

Not to start an argument, but there's no way the V2 Edge is heavier than the V1. Ifthat's the reading you got either the scales are wrong or somebody added something to the V2 plane. There is noway the V1 Edge is lighter than the V2 if comparably equipped.

I bought a 28% W,H Extra a few months ago as did a few pals of mine, However they opted for 3w- One guy had the 56 twin the others just the standard 55cc version. I wasnt impressed at-all. My extra with a Da 50 upfront hovers hands off with the wing loading so sweet. The guy with the 56 wrecked it 3 weeks after its first flight trying to torque roll at zero feet. The others havnt made a strong impression with their set ups as far as i can see. The planes are just heavier so theyre nothing like the plane i fly with the DA50 up front. The shop they bought the planes from told 'em the 3w was the best choice. They would say that as they dont stock DA anymore. I wouldnt listen to a honey tounged sale-man if ya paid me. I,m,o the 3Ws SUCK on the 28%. Im sure the folks trying to sell these lumps wouldnt be so keen to fly with them if they were any good at flying? It seems What they know about wing loading-(you could write on the back of a match with a large paint brush) Most rookies just think about the vertical pull-out being the saftey net? Whilst compromising the wing loading for unrequired power? I want as much power as i can get upfront but not at the expence of making a good 3D plane into a plank

Well, that's a bit harsh, but I agree with the basic idea that it's silly to add all that extra weight and it does affect the flying, especially in 3d and other near-stall types of flying.

Now that summer is over I was wondering how it flew for you. I just purchased one myself.

Oh, man, THIS is starting to get frustrating. I keep finding threads that start out like they're goign to cover some current ground on these, and just as it starts to get up to date the thread ends. I ordered one so I was just trying to get some more info on it. By the way, from all accounts it's going to be a terrific flyer....just wanted some more reading material on it.

Here's what the V2 looks like under the skin (naked). The first thing I did was remove the covering - going to go with a red Bull based scheme.

I have build threads on three other forums, but did not start one here.

Nice pics on the airframe. I haven't got that far as of yet. I got the covering off of the stab and started covering my scheme right away. I do find the bottom side view interesting showing the balance tabs on the aelirons.

Even though most of the "real" Edge pics I used for reference are the single seat variant, the airframe and graphics were close enough for me to get a comparison ....then I used a photo editing program on my computer to try out some ideas.

I started laying out the covering design this weekend. I'll post some more pictures when I make more progress.

Hi Guys,

I ordered the combo package with the Edge 540T V2, the 3mmTOC 53CC engine, and the full hardware package. I just spent 5 hours taking it out piece by piece and photographed EVERYTHING, top to bottom, and top & bottom. I've bought about a bajillion planes in my life, and I have to say, I'm really impressed. Everything was packaged nice and safely, all of the airframe parts and hardware pieces came in plastic bags, and the wings came in WING BAGS!! Not top-of-the-line wing bags, but very decent, functional wing bags with handles for carrying them safely. The yellow, which I was wondering about because it looked a little dark-ish on the website, is a nice, bright yellow, with only the very slightest tough of orange...still very nice and bright. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at this for now. I still have to download about a hundred photos from my digital and label them all, then I'll have some for you to look and drool over. I might as well do a building review on it, since I had the presence of mind to start it out right with full documentation. I'll just close by saying that I've read what all the complainers had to say about these, and so far even under very close scrutiny I can find NONE of the issues, and I looked for them! I even took photos right up into the fuse from inside. There is so much more plane here than I could have ever imagined. Unless I find something that totally surprises me, I'm going to love both building and flying this bird. Huge Kudos to Tom Fawcett at Wild Hare RC for an excellent design. ***SIGH*** ....Now I'm gonna have to get the Extra 300 too.

Poor Jim.

Anybody stuck a DL-50 on one yet? What size standoffs are needed? I suppose it's probably same size you would need for a DA-50...

The measurements are really clear and easy, and (with the TOC 53CC) you can set it on the firewall and simply lay the cowl right over it to see where you are. I just used some scraps with known thicknesses, and shimmed it until I had the measurement I was happy with. I should imagine you can do the same with the DL50. Here is a link where you can see some photos of my build. I'm still in the middle of the build there but I got stalled for a couple of weeks due to a house purchase and impending move. I'd be happy to move the basic build and photos over here when I get it done (or even before). I still have all the photos and text.

Hope I'm allowed to place this link here. I'm subscribed to this thread here as well.

I have a question for anybody that has one of these 28% Wild Hare Edges or Extras... did you have to cut through the plywood ring that mounts the cowl in order to mount the cowl? I *really* hate to cut that ring but don't see any other way really to do it. I'm using a DL-50 and trying to decide between the stock muffler, or a JTec Pitts style that I bought. The stock muffler looks like I would have to cut less, only one exhaust tube instead of two, but will definitely have to cut the wood ring to mount the cowl. The stock muffler I might be able to just cut the interior part out and leave the ring, not sure yet.

Anybody got any pictures of how/what they did with a DA-50 or DL-50?

I've read all your comments with great interest, and it seems like the consensus is that this is a great building/flying airplane. I'd been flying my V1 for almost two years until I broke it last sunday: Motor coughed in a low hover. I start flying at 7000 ft. and the revolution 52cc. I originaly installed in the airplane just didn't give me any vertical performance so I installed an Evolution 58cc. engine. Despite the extra weight, it was still a beautiful flying airplane: Hover at 40% throtle and when you got tired it climbs vertically like a rocket by adding 70% power. So I've just ordered my V2. I am also going to take off the covering and do mine in Greg Poe collors, although I must admit the "Red Bull" is very tempting. Can't wait to get into the project. Thank's all for the stimulating and lively discussion.
