i am buying one second hand with the 3w 106cs. it is like new. so this thing is very stable ?. i have flown a comparf 2.6 extra 330 and it is very stable and will land like a trainer. how do you compare the edge to the extra as far as stability....

It's 1000x better than the 330l, I had the 330l for a couple of months and sold it because it didn't fly nearly as well as the Edge. The 330L tracked a little better for precision work, but wasn't anywhere near as stable and predictable as the Edge when it gets slow, and for 3d, there was no comparison. Seriously, the 330l isn't even close.

thank you for the info.. waht engine are you running on yours. i have alot of good things about this 3w 106cs qq engine. i am running a da 100 in my yak now am so happy with the reliability. i cant imagine how bad this engine is going to be on a 26 pound plane. 12 horses compared to 9.8.i am trying to get all the info i can. i just dont want to make a mistake and buy something i am not going to like... thanks pat

DA100 on mine. The 3w is a great engine as well.

I just maidened mine with a DA100 last weekend.. got about 10 flights on it so far. I have to say, this is a GREAT flying plane. I haven't tried to wring it out yet, but what everyone is saying about stable slow flight is absolutely right. I was afraid to bring a 27 pound plane down on a final turn that slow, but this thing absolutely crawls straight and level. I finally got the engine idleing smooth and slow, and the plane floats in on a pillow.

A friend of mine was building a Comp ARF 2.6 Extra while I was building my Edge, we compared notes along the way. The CA is about 4 inches longer from spinner to tail, but the Edge is a "fatter" frame. Mine's a little heavier than his, but he went with mufflers instead of cans. He also had to put a good deal of weight in the nose to compensate for the missing cans.

One thing I really like about the Edge is the rudder tray.. its about 8 inches long, and runs the full width of the airframe. Plenty of room on there to mount not only the 2 rudder servos, but also all of the batteries, receiver, regulators, etc.. and I didn't have to add a bit of weight to balance.

The large rudder tray also helps stiffen up the sides of the fuse. I noticed that my friend's Compy already has paint wearing off where the wings touch the fuse. Mine still looks brand new. I'm sure it will wear eventually, but I think the stiffer frame helps a lot.

Oh yeah... and my Edge will leave his Compy in the prop wash... both with identical motors, props, etc!! Its a very fast plane that slows down great also.

BTW.. they were running a HE** of a deal a few weeks ago on the Castrol scheme... $995 if I remember... Bob Violet made me a good deal on my Fantasy scheme (not that good), so if you're serious, give him a call.

i had one for a while and sadly it is with us no more. i could do the unlimited sequence with it no worries. one thing about the edge for sequence work is that it is very c of g sensitive for snaps. if you find the sweet spot there is no equal. it makes me laugh when people on these sites say that edges dont snap well.

I was wondering... how far back from the wingtube are you guys going for CG? I still have a lot of breaking in to do with everything centered on the tube, but I wanted to know about how far I could go back before I regret it.

Same here, I experimented to get it where it flys well, but if you have the canopy off and pick it up by the tube it hangs pretty much level.

Yep.. mine hangs level on the tube right now, I just wasn't sure if anybody had shifted it back a little.

I've had it back, it really effects how the plane flies straight lines, meaning it won't fly straight lines, every little bump or gust sends it off course, it's even better in high alpha, but it's not worth it.

Thanks for the advise! Sounds like its going to stay on the tube for the forseeable future.

I wonder how a DA-85 would be for this airframe? I'm in the market for another plane.

At some point, I'm probably going to switch mine to the 85 and move my 100 to something bigger. My plane is right around 23.5 pounds as it sits now, with an 85 it'd be down to 22 or so, it'd be a rocket.

Man, at 23 pounds that thing must be a rocket! Mine's 27 and plenty of power. I guess you went with standard mufflers... what else to get the weight down? The only thing I've done is go with a CF wing tube.. that cut out about half a pound.
