just curious has any body had any trouble with the landing gear on these planes. i read that there is a way to strengthen them with a wood plate. has anybody done this or is this nothing really to worry about. can this plane take semi hard landings. not killer hard but just not soft. i am expecting mine next week. this plane is so sweet looking. i heard you can land this thing slow slow slow. any input. i just want to get ready and some heads up on certain things about this plane

The landing gear is very strong. Mine's never had any reinforcements, and through many harrier landings has not had a problem. I did rip it out, but that was when I ran it out of gas in a hover about 15ft or so up and dumped it in the corn levering the gear back. Nothing would have held up to that, and the repair was easy.

I've had mine for only 3 or 4 weeks, no "heavy" landings, but no signs of landing gear or fuse problems. This plane really does float in slow and easy, but wind and other situations can certainly cause you to bounce one in once in a while.

The instructions do point out that you can put a piece of ply on the top of the gear. I didn't do it, but I can see where that would better sandwich the gear to the fuse than just the 4 bolts. I've got cans on mine, so if I were going to do it, I should have done it already... we'll see!

The factory sells different levels based on how many flaws are in the paint. I don't know which ones BVM sells, but mine is an A (the highest level), and the finish is as good as Any Comp Arf I've seen. One thing I've noticed is the finish on Comp Arfs really seems to wear away where the wings and stabs meet the fuse, my Edge has a couple of scratches, but still looks good where the wings and stabs meet.

I would think twice about the 5945's.... I put them on a 74" yak a while back, and they worked so slow that I decided to remove them before I maidened. They may have plenty of torque, but they are slower than Christmas!

5985's are good alternatives, and much less expensive than the 5955. I use them on a couple of 50cc sized planes, they work great. On my Edge, I went with 5955's all around, doubling up on the rudder. The day I maidened the plane, one of the rudder servos went south, so I made a few flights with just one rudder servo... no problems. I understand they are now discontinueing the 5955's and replacing with a 5755... same size and torque, but with tighter stepping... there may be some deals out thee on 5955's.. check with servocity.com

I was able to compare my edge next to my buddies comp arf 300 (also 2.6m). The finish on my edge was easily as good as the comp arf, as was the overall quality of the plane. I remember thinking that both airplanes could have been built at the same factory.

Mine was not the top grade, and was on sale too boot. So all in all, for the price it was fine. My comp-arf 2.6 was of higher quality, fit and finish. I really did not like the wing aileron installation at all, although I think that has been changed. I modified mine any way.

I'd have to say the same.. I guess mine was probably a "b" grade. The only real issue was the black airbrushing on the edge of the "burnt checkers" was a pretty crappy job. Someone with good airbrush skills could probably fix it in about 5 minutes. I got a "deal" on mine also, I think I paid about $1200 + shipping. Its been a great plane so far, lots of positive comments on the fantasy scheme. Its the only Extreme Composite plane at the field, so that's a nice touch.

If you look at the picture I posted you will notice the gap between the aileron and wing. I had to take off over 1/4 of an inch so the ailerons would have any down ward travel. The person laying up the wing section took the nomex (sp) out all the way and there was no flexing in that area what so ever. I think mine was a c grade

RTK,
I must have missed your post of your Aileron fix. Did you remove 1/4" from the trailing edge of the wing to allow the ailerons to receed further into the wing? If so what was your method for removing the material?
I also have limeted travel on my ailerons.
How much travel are you guys getting from the ailerons, elevators and rudder on high rate?

Mike

I didn't remove any of the material on my wings at all, and I don't remember the exact numbers regarding throw, but I can tell you that it rolls blindingly fast on high rates.
