World Models?

Has anyone bought anything from World Model? there stuff seems cheap. How is the quality. I am looking at getting the Katana 36%, or the Katana 29%, they look identical to Aeroworks old Katana's. Are they? How do they fly?

I know a guy who has both the smaller Katana and their Ultimate I think it is... He loves them both, especially for what he got them for $.

I was wondering, because the specs are identical to the Aeroworks on there KatanaS both the bigger and the smaller one. HMMMM makes you wonder.

i have a few WM planes 46 nitro ulti 27% ulti 33% ulti 42% ulti & had a few more,,a mate has the katana & yes the aeroworks re badge for the market to enjoy under another name,cg

Ya it sure looks IDENTICAL. Is it the same construction? and I think its even the same color scheme isn't it?

Anyone tried the Katana S 36%??????

Yep, these are the old Aeroworks Katanas. I have one (see avatar). World Models was the manufacturer for Aeroworks.
These planes fly great, but they tend to come out tailheavy, as well as heavy overall. The wings and heavy aluminum landing gear contribute to most of this weight. For the price though, it is a 3D monster.
Mine has a BME 110 in it. Yes, I had to add the weight back to get it to balance, and yes, its still tail heavy .

WM was the FORMER Arf Manufacturer for AeroWerks...
The planes fly well. (I had a 36% Katana and the 42% Ulti)...
But the quality is junky... they wear out... torque pins are poorly bonded, the fit and finish is horrible... The bent alu cabanes on my ultimate appeared to have been fabricated by a one armed blind 6 year old girl!!! I would not buy another... there are too many other good quality planes at similar prices.... Anything from SD is better (IMHO)

I have the World Models 80" Extra 300S with a lightened G-62 on C&H ignition. It flies awesome. 450 flights and I finally knocked the gear off. I'd say it held up pretty well to a lot of abuse. It's time to strip the covering and go over it witrh a bottle of glue and some sand paper. It certainly doesn't owe me anything. Been a fine plane for many years.

I also have the World Models 90" Extra 330L. It's on the bench right now. I'm putting a 75cc motor on it. All 8411 servos with an 8611 on the rudder. It's a nice ARF. Pretty decent hardware for a china ARF and only $450 for the plane. I'm picky as about hardware, and I'm actually going to use about 50% of what came in the box on this one. Thats saying something too--if you knew me and knew how picky I am about hardware.

I used to have the little .46 Ultimate. It flew great. Solid and locked in. Easy landings--typical bipe. Wrecked it on a deadstick landing with a tailwind.

I have the 50 size Groovy too. Still in the box. But, nice quality for the money.

I like WM planes. They are built just fine IMO. I haven't seen anything that was just out of this world above them in quality. I've been around all of them. Just like the rest of you guys. The AW, QQ, WH, BME etc planes are all about the same quality. World Models is no better or worse than any other manufacturer. You can always find something to whine about on any ARF if you look hard enough.

My 80" Patty has been a favorite plane for many years. It's just one of those planes that makes you feel relaxed. It makes me look like a better pilot than I am because it flies very neutral. Mine has almost no coupling in knife edge. I don't even mix it out. I just fly it. I would literally take about 2% mix to keep it flying straight in a knife edge. It flies inverted with just a touch of pressure on the stick. Not much. It snaps clean and stops when I let go of the sticks. It has a nice axial roll with hardly any aileron differential. It spins clean and is predictable. It lands easy as any other 80" plane. For $350? Whats not to like?

I am putting together the 36% Katana. Its actually a pretty nice plane, fuselage is light but the wings feel a little heavy. The only things I dont like about the construction are the brass anti rotation pins and the way the wing and stab are installed. Its the old way with the blocks of wood in the wing and stab tubes that you drill, tap and screw through the wing (HEAVY). I too am using a BME 110 and I have installed everything as far forward as possible but have not completed it to the point that I can check CG yet. I am guessing that its going to come out at about 28 pounds with the stock equipment and the 110 if I can get it to balance. For the price its a pretty nice plane, nice covering, nice hardware.

If I were building it for myself or if I decide to keep it I will replace the landing gear and wing/stab tubes with carbon fiber.

That's pretty much all we can get out here in the middle east is World Models giant scale kits from the local distributors.
I have the Ultimate Bipe and the 80 inch Extra 330S both with DA50, and the large Clipped Wing Cub I put a DYZ 48cc twin in it, and my friend just commissioned the 90 inch Extra with a 3W 80, all are flying very well but you have to beef up the motor box and add the normal precautions like tail bracing, etc. For the price they are acceptable but not stellar kits. Cover trim is always falling off so you need the trim solvent handy but they use the cheap stuff and if you use too much solvent the color bleeds underneath. Throw away the supplied wheels and spinners also. Of course the cowl and canopy screws never stay put with the big singles hammering away so you always need to add thin CA to the holes to make threads. The final plane never comes out to the specified weight either so add a pound or so to you finished estimates if using petrol engines.
In reality I think all the brands get their kits from China anyway just labeled for what company orders from the factories.

World Models doesn't distribute an 80" Extra 330S in the USA. They DO distribute an Extra 300S in 80" span.

The 90" Extra isn't a 330L either. It's actually a 300LX.

In reality, no such thing as a 330 ANYTHING from the Extra factory. There is a guy that put a 330HP in an Extra 300L and called it a 330L. But, the factory NEVER produced any aircraft with the 330 designation. FYI.

I've owned a 80" extra, 27% Ultimate and various 40 size glow planes from World models. All have been well built and flew very well. The 80" extra I brought second hand and it had well in excess of 500+ flights before I sold it, and it was still in great condition. Some of their hardware is a little weak but the airframes are top notch.
