I am running APFD and G3.5 on a similar system to yours with Dual core and NVidia 7900GS PCI Express with no issue on Vista Ultimate. I have NVidia driver version 5.71.22.42.1

I work for Microsoft. I have a very full day tomorrow but I would be happy to help you trouble shoot tomorrow evening or Saturday. I know the drivers we are currently distributing via MS Update do not work - but the version above which I downloaded from NVidia works like a charm for me.

There is also a newer beta driver on the NVidia site which did not work... if you can't find the version mentioned above I think I still have it and can post it on my server for you.

I am getting frame rates in excess of 400fps... at 1680x1050 32bit in APFD.

APFD, G3.5 and FSOne all work on Vista (for me.)

I just setup a computer with vista for a friend and has 2g of ram. I put g3.5 on there but he needs to order his own controller for it to work. Ive been meaning to bring my controller over there to see how g3.5 works on it. Ive heard a lot of problems with vista but anything new that comes out is going to have problems. I am going to wait till May or June to get my new HP computer with Vista.

Yes if you can link me to the working video driver I think I can handle the rest! I set up a dual boot with a second drive for XP on the new machine just to test the hardware. All I have to do is select the drive in BIOS on boot and I can give Vista another try. The driver I used was just posted on Nvidia's site on 02/02 but I don't know the driver release at the moment.

I just took a look and there is a new driver on the site as of Feb 20 - version 100.65 32-bit... Mine was a version 90 something... I'll see if I still have it.

I may also try upgrading to the new driver and see if it causes me any issues.

I'll let you know...

As with any new OS release it takes some time for the drivers to catch up - and BIOS setting setc can sometimes have an impact as well. I hope I can help you get it working. I find gaming in general on Vista is working very well for me so far.

Working in IT for many years, I can tell you that when new OS's are released, we never upgrade until the first service pack is released. Vista is waaay different than XP on many levels, but I'm sure the good folks at Knife Edge will have a fix/patchs to remedy any issues.

I'm running Windows Vista and G3.5 without any problems at all... in fact it rocks! Only issue was you need to disable User Accout Control or UAC to do the 3.5 upgrade.

Yup....if the install is failing on Vista, first thing to try is disabling UAC....tends to solve most install problems with Vista. Once it's installed, you can usually turn UAC back on.

Also, make SURE you've got good, stable, Vista compatible drivers. The latest XP drivers aren't gonna cut it. Not many mfg's have solid Vista drivers out yet....most are still old XP drivers just tweaked to work on Vista.

Hardware drivers is the biggest hurdle for Vista right now. It's going to take some time for all the different vendors to catch up. Vista's kernel is significantly different than XP....big learning curve for devs, so it'll just take time.

I've been on it since last October and I can honestly say Vista is just as stable, if not more stable, than XP ever was.....and that stability is ENTIRELY driven by the quality of the hardware drivers installed.

Vista SP1 isn't far off....we should be seeing a beta fairly soon. In fact, we already have a design doc for a new app that requires Vista SP1...
