If you have a 3" spinner it may have a 10mm hole and the engine has a 8mm main shaft. I had to shim my back plate to match the 8mm shaft. Also grab the spinner or prop nut and physically move it up and down to see if you have any play in the main shaft. If so box it up and send it in. |

Take the spark plug out of the cylinder and push it into the spark plug boot. Turn on ignition, rotate propeller and look for spark. No spark=problem. No need to ground the plug to the cylinder, just fully insert it into the plug cap.
High pitch whine coming from module when turned on is a dead module. Check your battery charge also, if it's below 5 volts the ignition system will not work well. There are a couple different models of CDI modules, the most current has battery and sensor wires that look just like servo extension wire, (red ,black, white), these tend to work better with a 5 cell battery. Do not use a 5 cell battery on the older version. The older version's sensor and battery wires just look like one black or gray wire going to the plug. I got 5 flights in today and the 26 ran well. It seamed to have more power in the 4 and 5th flights. It spun the JFX 17x6 at 8300 at the end of the day. The muffler is toast. The clamp held it in place but the metal to metal chattering made a mess of things. If I can get 500 more rpms I'll be happier. Next runs will be with 50:1 and I will tweek the needles to see if I can coax more out of it without going lean.

I just ordered a combo including this engine from Valley View, started flying RC in the late 60's, but this will be my first gasoline engine in an RC plane, so I've been following this with great interest.

I tried searching the thread to find this, but my search failed to find this information...I read the entire thread once and made notes, but didn't record this particular piece of information.
What capacity battery pack should I get for this engine? |
