To lean, set the low needle at 1-1/3 and the high needle at 1-3/4. I hope you're not using Lawnboy or Amsoil, use a 32:1 mix, get it running and keep it running at a high idle or mid range where it is relatively smooth and let it run for 20 -30 minutes nonstop, shut it off let it cool then restart it. Then warm it up again and adjust the needles, adjust the high speed needle to the rich edge of peak RPM but not so rich it looses any RPM from being rich. Adjust the low needle for leanest crisp transition, should wind up about 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 on the low needle and about 1-3/8 to 1-5/8 on the high.

Will do
I'm using Valvoline 2 cycle engine oil, I looked everywhere locally for the Penzoil 2 stroke, nobody around here had it.

Your fine with the Valvoline, don't waste a bunch of effort trying to get Penzoil, nothing special or magic about it.

I've got an Auto Zone just a few blocks from here, I've got 3 major national auto parts chains less than a half mile from my house, plus WalMart, Kmart, Lowe's, none of them had it. I got the Valvoline at one of the auto parts stores.

Engine set up with the battery plugged directly into the ignition, high and low speed needles adjusted as requested, I tried it with a 4.8 volt pack and tried to hand start it, sounded like it was right on the verge of starting, but never started, switched over to a 6 volt pack, measured 6.3 volts no load, still wouldn't hand start, so I got the starter out and this is what happened, exactly the same thing. I think the ignition module is bad.

Here's the TLT Yak 54 from Valley View that I had this engine in, I lost it after the engine quit at low altitude. It was a great flying plane!

Sorry to hear that.
