Default Nitro.. Toro... little help...

Heres the deal, I got me a cheap ccpm heli. It's a raptor G2 from exceed rc. It was so cheap that I couldnt pass up the offer so even if I flew it once and crashed it it was still worth it. It's a RTF heli and I got it out of the box charged the battery and gave it a whirl.

The thing flies really well. But it can only stay up for about a minute before it falls back down and sits about 5 inces off the ground until the battery dies a minute after that. So I've got a ton of foamy electronics layin around. I bolted in my e-flight Six series brushless motor. It fit in with only minor alterations. and then installed my spektrum Dx7 reciever stuff.

So here's my question. Do I need a speed controller thats specifically for heli's? Or is my foamy speed controller ok for it. And also is there any tutorial on what all this programming stuff for helis is? Theres all kinds of programming stuff in my DX7 but It looks like another language to me. Also the DX7 manual is a little complex on the heli stuff. I need someone to dumb it down for me. lol

Your foamy speed control should be fine.. just make sure you got enough amperage, as the helis can spike loads pretty good with collective.

For some insight into programing radios, curves, gyro stuff, etc.. go to

What battery are you using? You'll need a pitch guage if you don't have one already. If your going to the wram show pick up and align guage from the rchover booth.

Awesome link with the heli's Toro. Thanks. And Nitro I'm using a 1050 mah lipo. But I also got a 2100 thunder power lipo that I might try. I need some more weight up front anyway. Oh... and whats a pitch guage?... lol

Ok. I think I'm done for the night. HOLY CRAP!. I got the 2100MAh thunder power strapped in and set up the throttle curves and stuff. I'm kind of beating the crap out of the head right now cause the motor jumps to life as soon as you hit the throttle and it's slamming the head into the blades. But after it straightenes it self out it's a freggin monster!! It has an INSANE amount of lift. One more question though.

Can I over rev this head? at 0 pitch and full throttle I'm getting a weird groaning noise like the things about to blow apart. No shaking just some real slight groan/buzzing kind of noise.

Thanks Mike. I'm starting to like it. Trying not to get too attached, I think this thing is on the verge of blowing up. One more question. I dont really trust this gyro. Whats a good replacement?
