Default Servos for Seba Katana 30E

Hello everybody!

I'm building this beauty, and I would like to use Futaba's servos, but I have no experience with them. What Futaba servos would you recommend for this size of plane? The manual recommends JR 381...

what do you think?

thanks in advance

I asked the same question to the man himself, John Glezellis, and he told me that in his setup, he is running:

Hacker A30-14L
Futaba 3115 servos (takes slight modification to fit these, as they are slightly larger than a Hitec65 for example, which will drop right in)
APC 14x7E prop
3Cell 20C 2000 mah Lipo (you can use a 4 cell, but John says the 3Cell keeps it real light and still has plenty of power).

Hi John, I saw that Glezellis used the 3115, but I think that's way too overkill (and on weight and size). I was thinking about the 3114 Nano and a 114F micro receiver. What do you think?:

FUTM0414 Volts Torque Speed 4.8V 21.0 oz-in. 0.10 sec/60° 6.0V 23.6 oz-in. 0.09 sec/60° Dimensions Weight 0.9 x 0.4 x 0.8 in. 0.275 oz.

Hi Guys,

I found that the best servos on this model have 30-oz/in of torque or more. While the 3115 may seem a bit overkill, it has 38.9-oz/in of torque, and you can feel it while rolling at high speeds; simply said, no blow-back whatsoever. The only downside, though, is that slight modification needs to take place as the model was designed around a servo that is the size of the HS-65.

Regarding the receiver, I have been using the 146-6-channel PCM receiver from Futaba, and will try the R606FS (Futaba's 6-channel 2.4 receiver) over the weekend.

All in all, it is a great flying airplane and has a lot of potential. Mainly, it is big for its size and is light!

Best Regards,
JPG

Thank you very much for your help. I wouldn't like to modify the servo holes, so I think I will go with the Hitec 65. Now the question is, HB or MG?

thanks lee! I've just received at home the plane. It looks awsome. Hope to get it in the air by next weekend. Any special suggestion for the building?

You lucky man. The 30S is a dream. It goes together realy nice. I diddnt take any notice of the instructions regarding elevator hinging. I cut a small wedge out to install the horizontal stab as i diddnt like the suggested way of using tweezers to poke-in the hinges aftrewards. I just stuck the small wedge back after the elevator was hinged. I would of made a mess trying to follow sebas pics? For really stable hovering and indoor Huckin - i use a 1800 20c lipo, for general 3D i use A 2200-20C. Cant wait to see you fly it, im sure youll make it look amazing. As per usual
