Just curious as it has been a while since I heard it mentioned, but anything special needed to add a DA igntion to an old style 3W 150 with the single magnet hub? My buds ignition is dead and cannot find a replacement old style 3w ignition and does not want to upgrade the hub and new style ignition due to $$$, so got a DA ignition for it.

You need to put the DA pickup on. My buddy has done this on his 150 and 200 twin spark.

Thanks Tony, could not remember if the 3W pickup would work or if it had to run the DA pickup.

A 3W pickup (old style with induction coil inside) for the single magnet hub will work just fine with a DA ignition. You don't even have to move the sensor - timing stays the same. Basically, the old style 3W and DA ignitions are interchangeable. The connectors may be different, but if you hook up the wires right they work fine. You can also run a Falkon ignition on the 3W engine. This will need the Falkon Hall sensor pickup and you'll have to time the motor so you get spark at 3 degrees BTDC for static timing.

Diablo is correct. You do not need to change the pickup if it is the old style which it should be since it it the old style ignition. I ran a DA ignition on my 150 for a while and I also loaned a 3W ignition to my buddy which he ran on his DA for several months. Neither one of us changed the pickups.

Thanks for the support, fella's - my new DA ignition is already enroute, but I do appreciate your kind offer. Three days ago I would've taken you up on it, but I like the idea of the DA ignition, as my nice DA fuel dot will have a better explanation Won't mind having a spare pick-up either - never hurts. |

Hello ,
A lot of guys here in the UK have ditched their 3W Ignitions for a DA one and have had no problems since . Some have even ditched them if they are still OK and fitted a DA one |
