Default What is my next kit??

Wasn't sure where to ask this.....

Here is the gig... I'm an ARF guy.... but someday (soon) I would like to try my hand at building a 35 - 40% kit.....

I would like to build my experience up....

I just finished my first kit (OMP Fusion with a Saito .82)
The building part was great. Admittedly this is a profile with GREAT laser cutting, but I really enjoyed the build........

Covering was another thing... I used Monokote and learned a ton, but I am not happy....(compound curves SUCK!) oh welll... I will get better

I was thinking about the Sig 1/4 scale cub and I would put a Zenoah G20i in it....
but I'm and IMAC/3D guy.... while the cub would be nice... I just don't think I would be excited about it.........

So... the question is... what kit should I build?
I guess it needs to be a fun plane... something at least a bit aerobatic....
Size? Hmmmm... I guess anything that would be appropriate.... .40 to 1.50 size would work..........

Just can't find things out there.....

Or do I just jump in and get a Carden kit and call DaveDSP and have it covered???

What say ye??

Cheers
Exeter

Curtis!!

I think you are up to the challenge of building a 40% Carden. You have more than enough experience and if you get into a bind you have plenty of people you can turn to for help. Cam is close by and Will has built a boatload of Cardens. Dave at DSP does an awesome job covering!! Are you sure that you don't want to tackle the job yourself??? I am quite certain that Will would be happy to coach you on the finer points of covering--you've seen the nice job he does.

I vote Carden!!

Marian

Hmmm...

I might give it a go....
I do have several talanted people around me....

I'll give it serious thought

I did just build a new work bench this winter, and we made it big enough that a 40%er could fit....

I think you can go with the Four Star 60, a very easy kit and a very good plane with good flying characteristic, aerobatics and all.
That was one of my first kits i built, the 40 version and it was a nice and
fast learning.

You can finish her in two weeks alone, this way you could learn how to.
Easy to built, easy to cover, easy to fly......

Good luck,

TAZ

Sig makes great kits.... but I have no interest in a 4*... I flew one a few years ago as my 2nd plane....

Great plane. but no thanks....
I more looking for something much more aerobatic..

I currently fly a Carden 40% extra and a QQ Yak in IMAC, but I didn't build them....

I would like to build my own GS plane and just trying to decide on the skill set needed

If you want a Carden, get a Carden. There's no magic involved and I know very few builders that won't stop what they are doing to lend a hand, just ask. All the current crop of Carden kits build the same and basic skills are really all thats required. Dennis is just a phone call away from any problems or misunderstandings you can possibly find or have. There's Carden build threads all over the place that offer a good reference to the build up. Personally, I'd go for it, be 35 or 40% build it like pictured on the plans and you'll have a fantastic flyer..With that said the hobby always progresses forward with more people willing to build. You get one under your belt and you'll always want to do another, beware. Walt

Precision Aviation (Godfrey) are great kits, I am almost done with my 35% Extra 260... Its so simple and builds very light. It looks like I am coming in at 24.5 lbs with a DA 100..
