Default Comp-arf 2.3 meter extra

Hey guys,
I just finished my extra 260 27% and now its off to a new project. My idea was the comp arf 2.3 meter extra 260. I think this plane looks great and i've always wanted to try the composite. Please give your comments criticisms etc. I am not fixed on this plane, but somewhere in that size, other planes will be looked at too, if stated.

Btw, if you own or have owned this plane, what setup did you use. engine, servos, etc.
Thanks in advance,
nick

Composite-ARF 2.3 is an Extra 300L not 260.

I had one and it flew great! I had a 3w 75us on it. More than enough power. It was my first big plane that flew like a big plane. 100 timed better than the great planes wagstaff extra ! You will love it .

Ive had 2 with DA50 on a KS pipe then switched to ZDZ80. Great planes. With the 50 on a pipe its a great 3D machine but better for IMAC with the 80.

Same deal as Excelpoint. I had a ZDZ80 in mine, Hitec 5945 servos.

Probably the biggest feeling smaller sized composite plane you will fly. Its capable of everything youu can throw at it, very forgiving but keep it light light light.

As Kiwi said, keep it light. If you are after a serious IMAC plane then stick an 70-80cc in it. If you want a 3D plane go with a 50, keep the wing loading a little lighter

Same set up as the others zdz 80 + 5945 all around . Keep it light , there is no need for power box or the like , just 1 receiver and one servo per surface (5955).

The 80 will not need a full tuned pipe however they do run better and quieter on MTW or the like , they are just a bit hard to fit in . Will be a killer combo with the DA 85 .

I had 300 + flights on mine in the end and 12 months after selling it I still miss that plane . They fly very straight and locked in and the power to weight cannot be matched by any of the larger planes .

Stu,

The numbers on the DA85 show it pulling pretty similar figures to the DA100 twin. That would be a way too bigger donk for that little plane.

I have never seen a 60 or 70cc motor in one of these but that would be the ducks nuts if there is a good light weight one available. ZDZ or something like that.

I used a power system in mine mainly due to the fact I like to have backup. Two battery packs at the very least and they weigh nothing in the end as with the 80cc ZDZ in it you need to hang lead off the taill wheel to balance it anyway. I have a picture of my setup and like this it was a dang pocket rocket. The 80cc was an overkill really.

Thanks guys,
a question though, isnt one servo for the aileron a bit too little? I thought of running two! Will it affect the weight that much?
best regards,
nick

To true , you could get in trouble very quickly with the DA 85 up front but it depends what you like . I had a couple of years of pattern prior to my 2.3 so throttle management was not an issue .

As for the figures quoted for the 85 who knows but as you said any 80cc engine is going to be over kill . If Nicco wants to do IMAC he will need nothing short of 70cc .

This is the fantastic thing with the 2.3 comp arf ,it is just as happy with a 50cc engine as it is with the 80cc . All you need to do is figure out just what you are going to do with the plane and then get the engine to match . This is why the plane is so good , it can do it all .

Nicco , we have all done 100s and 100s of flights and 1 good servo (15kg+) is all you are ever going to need .

Thanks stu,
Do you think i should try the new ds 8711? Or go with Hitech's? Btw, I want to fly 3D with this plane, i still do not know what engine to put into it! Any suggestions?

8711 will be fine with the power but I prefer the 5955 for the titanium gears . I dont know how good/ bad the gears are in the 8711 .

If you are going to 3D you will not need the extreme power of an 80 so take your pick . Most engines out there are pretty good . A 50 is going to require a pipe K & S style while the 60 - 75 will only need a pitts .

A mate of mine flys one with a 3w 75 and its a nice solid combo .
