why couldent i just put a 80, like the da 85 for 3D? Wouldent that give me awsome performance, or would it be too heavy?

I'm no 3D expert but IMAC requires heaps of top end power and the weight is not so much of an issue because you are not at the point of stall much, however 3D is at the other end of the scale .

Light wing loading is a must in slow flight , it makes for better recovery from stalled positions so if you go for the heavier engines (80cc) you may not end up with the plane you want .

I would go for the DA85 my self but 3D is not my thing .

I have a 2.3 with a BME 95 twin and it is a rocket as well. I have 1 8611 on all surfaces and have no problems. it has smoke and redundent batteries. it can take all that I can give it and does it with authority. I will try and find some pics of it as I had it custom painted. in fact if you search for finally painted my 2.3M comp arf you should find it.
Go for the 2.3 you'll have a great time with it, I know that I am!

If you want it for 3D then stick a 50 in it, the benifit you will get from a lighter wing loading will out weigh the benifit of more power, with a 50 and pipe they pull out of a hover quite nicely, everything else no problem at all.

I just finished a JR scheme version of the plane. I put in the DA 50 with KS 1060 pipe. I used 3 1320 lipos for battey, vess prop and truturn spinner, 3 8611A and 2 8411 on the tail. There are no extras on the plane. Nothing behind the fuel tank but the elevator servos and the muffler.
The plane is 19lb 12oz. It is so tail heavy that it will require 24 oz on lead on the front of the cowl. This was to get to 110 mm not 105mm. Now it wieghs 21lb 4oz. The batterys are mounted on the outside front of the motor dome. The only place I could shift wieght is to change tail wheel, but I will only loose 1 oz. It is a little help but not much.

Very nice What does it weigh with the 95 twin in it? I am tossing up between on of these or a 2.6m extra.

AUW with the 95 Twin is 24lbs. which is okay since comp-ARF claims that the plane will weigh in between 20-22lbs with the 50 and minimal avionics. I have dual redundant batteries, a Don Harris smoke Pump with 24oz tank, and a 24zo fuel tank. if I cut those down as I do not need to carry that much fuel I can get the weight down even more. I do know that with the 95 Unlimited Vertical is not an issue and this summer, in the hot and high altitude conditions over a black asphalt runway it was able to hover at 1/3 throttle. Its a monster but not too much overkill compared to me stuffing the 110 or 115 in there.

hey bro two things to comment on. if you get a 2.6, then you have instal canister mufflers on it....another thing is that 8711 are a hella lot if your putting two on the surfaces. an hitec or jr 8411-8611 would be more than enough...
