Default DA 50 Service Big Thanks

I want to give a Big Thank You!! to DA for service on my old, but never used, and new, DA 50.

I had heard, and read in these threads, that they would update an older DA 50, so I asked Dave Johnson about it when I was at the Shootout this past October. He said to send it in if the serial number was less than 3000. Well mine was DA0874. I sent it in, and a week later had it back with no charge. They replaced the crankshaft, front bearing, middle bearing, connecting rod, and carb block. Now that is backing up a product!

It was sent back from Richard Hastings, so I assume he did the work. Thanks, Richard.

I bought this engine after winning a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to DA about 4 years ago, when I had started flying Sportsman with an 80" Midwest Extra. I'm sure it was a promotional deal for DA. It was to go into that plane, but would have required some serious mods to the engine box, so it sat around in its plastic bag and box. To get a proper balance, the firewall needed to be moved back about 1 inch.

I got it out to admire it once in awhile, and it sat longer after I got hints there were some problems with DA 50s. I moved on to a larger plane (35%). That Midwest Extra is on the bench and will be modified to accept the DA 50; and it will provide some much needed power on vertical uplines. It will be a plane to fly for some fun, and maybe as a backup or loaner to someone that dorks their plane at a contest.

Thanks again Desert Aircraft.

Got the exact same treatment on mine! Mine is 673 I think. Even older than yours and it now runs better than ever.
