No pics, but it was a house of balsa "two tee" glider. Funny thing was that I was into RC cars and the only radio I had was a kopropo EX-7 pistol-grip radio. My first attemt to fly it was right off a high-start - needless to say, it didn't turn out so good, lol!

Some cheap electric RC plane that ran off of NICADS. It took as much effort to get it in the air as it did to fly it. I think it was one of the early Aerobirds. I learned to fly off of that and Real Flight. My first nitro plane as a super Decathlon. That is another story.

Low and slow- How I roll

My first was a Wattage Wind Cruizer. Flew it a few times, and fixed a few more times, and I was hooked. My first real trainer plane was a Hobby Shack schoolboy, untill the wings folded, and it took a dive into the ground.

Back to 1983 when I was 6 years old. My dad and I build a Great Planes trainer 40, with an OS Max 40 and Gold Futaba radio. Flew the crap out of that plane. Really started my passion for aviation. I had my model in the basement and my dad was building a Christen Eagle II in the garage. Moved through many planes but never forgot those days with my dad...God this is such a great hobby...
Love you Dad 5/21/43-10/18/2001 Mark

Here it is. A Goldberg Eaglet, 50" wingspan, Magnum 25, Airtronics system. Built in 1991. Still flys and has the original Monocote covering.

Man I hate to admit it but I can't remember which one it was. I do remember looking into the Tower .40 trainer but I got one that had a 64 inch wing instead of the 60 inch or less everyone else had. This was the only 64 inch trainer ARF.
And ya know what ? I still enjoyed flyng it even after I was flying Extras and a Diablo. Even had a Stinger or two. Sometimes I carried it as my backup plane in case my primary had a problem I wouldn't have to pack up and go home. I always carried at least two planes to the field just in case one didn't fly or fly all day. And then there is the no thinking flight one gets with a trainer. Love to fly my Dads Kadet Senior. I'd like to have one now. |

1979, Andrews H-Ray, OS 30 and Kraft guidance. Dang thing would almost hover. All the old geezers at the field tried to discourage that kind of stuff, still do !

I got my first r/c plane back in 1988 when I was 16 years old and it was a Great Planes PT-40 trainer kit that I bought from Tower Hobbies back in the 80's for $99.00 and it included 2 rolls of Monokote, an O.S. 40FP engine, and glue. (Wish we could see those kind of prices again) I built the kit and had probably 50 flights on it. I actually still have it!
One interesting thing about it, is the fact that it survived a fire pretty much unscathed except for a small hole in the covering on the wing when it was hanging up for display at a friends hobby shop!! Shawn
