Howdy folks,

I’ve had my Walkera 60 heli for a month or three now. I found a manual that explains it so much better than the one that came with it. I think I have a pretty well tuned heli, at least for a newb, with the blades balanced dynamically and statically and a level swash plate. The drive belt for the tail rotor is at optimal tension as to not steal power from the motor, and I feel I have a pretty good mesh with the pinion gear to main gear. The pitch of the blades is correct and I no longer have to watch my heli spin like a dog chasing its’ tail.

My problem is I am hard headed and I intend to get this thing in the air with a brushed motor. I have destroyed and repaired the motor that came with the heli. I have been reading up on brushed motors and there is a lot to learn about them. They can be bought from 8 to 60 dollars. I am trying to find the best motor I can without having to upgrade to brushless motor and esc. Is there anybody out there with advice on watt motor to buy and where online I can find it? Lemme know!

Well there ya go. That’s me (the short version at least). Thanx for lettin’ me bend your ear and glad to be a member!

Chris

Cool! A new member! The title of the post made me smile and click on the link. Then I see you used it as your screen name. Very nice, clever!

I cannot help you with the electric question you asked as I only play with the electric stuff.

I can say welcome, though!

Hey Chris,

It's great to have you here!!

Your question is beyond my limited knowledge of brushed systems, so I'll need to send you on to the real knowledgeable folks. I'll move this to the electric forums to get you more exposure.

Welcome to the Giants!!!

Hi Alec,

A better manual for this heli is the Night Ranger 3DXL manual. I don’t have a link right off hand but I will send it to you the pdf if you cannot find it on the net. PM me with your email address if you need it.

Hi Alex,

I couldn't get the manual to load as an attachment so here is a link. Just remember that the dip switch settings are wrong in this manual so you will need to use the settings that come with the origional one.

well cris i got the chopper last nite. first impressions, what a skittery thing. all over the place, running on the trainer wheels of coarse. how do i tame this brute down? if it was a plane we would dial in some expo. the only chopper that i have flown is the 320 mm counter rotating ones so i have to come to grips with chopper talk and a manual which means nothing to me.( at this stage) my mates think i am going to be challenged with this thing, and they call it a learners chopper. i feel a steep learning curve comming on . alex

You can dial in expo on this little guy too which will desensitize the area around mid stick and make it easier to hover. Go to page 10 in the Night Ranger 3DXL manual for instructions.

Remember that this heli has a reputation for being twitchy so watch the servos to make sure they are not jumping around on their own. Some folks like to move the Rx to the rear of the cage to get it away from the motors interference. Let us know how it progresses.

That is amazing!!! The typical pilot would have smashed it into the wall by now. I am glad to hear you are taking your time and learning how to adjust everything. You should notice much more power with the brushless motor so keep that in mind. Keep up the great work.

well cris , i have had my first prang. stripped main gear. and bent the small main shaft. parts on way. i got it trimed out, took a while. still could use more expo, for a learner. the brushless has more power like you said. they sure stir up the air when flying inside, i guess they cant get away from the rotor wash making them a bit harder to fly. it was much better to fly outside (when the wind went down). now calm and i am out of the air. i think i should have 2 of them, 1 flying and 1 under repair. alex

cris. the crash was caused by losing radio contact. it shot up high while hovering then wandered off about 50 yards, got radio link back and got it close to me to land when it dived in . stripped main gear and bent the small shaft that holds the rotors on. it was on 2.4 . going to 40 meg. now. alex
