Default need audio software

Hey guys
I would like to find some audio mixing software.
It dosent have to be advanced stuff just something that is
easy to cut ,mix, & overlay tracks.
I have old software that works ok but it cant work with mp3's
and I am getting tired of converting files back and forth.
Thanks

I use a program called Goldwave. It has a free trial that is full function. The limitation on the free version is how many actions can be used each time the program is ran. th e purchase price is $45 US. You can find it here http://www.goldwave.com/

I use Audacity

easy to use...takes a bit to get used to, but not bad... and it is Open Source so the price is right!

I tried gold wave
I had hard time cutting pasteing, selecting the parts I wanted.

Some one also recomended labwave but that looks like a high end editor.
I have even used my video editor its easy to edit overlap sound tracs.
but the quality is horrible.
I have been using an old program soundforge xp, but it cant work with mp3's
I'll keep looking,
keep the Sugestions comming thanks

I've been using this package since it was cool edit pro (Adobe bought syntrillium and made only minor changes to it initiallly but it has been made to look more Adobe like).

I also have tools by Cakewalk (Sonar Studio) and Steinberg (Cubase) and can tell you that when I want to get things done in an easy, clear and concise way I use Audition (but it is $349 unless you have something to upgrade from).

Cakewalk Home Studio 7 is significantly cheaper at $139 and is almost as easy to use as Audition, it just doesn't have as many effects/tools built in.

I've also helped others with Audacity, try it first, if it doesn't do what you want go shopping. The main thing is to avoid those $50 boxes that you might find at best buy, etc. They really are just Audacity re-licensed and boxed to seperate you from your money!

Also, don't ignore possible low cost upgrade / crossgrades on the Cakewalk / Steinberg web sites. I wound up with about $1200 of software for about $200 by making use of the crossgrade - upgrade approach! (Bought a cheap sound card with Cakewalk SonarLE - Registered and paid $99 upgrade to Sonar Studio, then crossgraded to Cubase for $99!)
