Look what the FedEx man brought!
![]() So excited! Even talked the hubby into setting aside the Dalton build for a few days to help me put it together! *grin* I will issue a warning now...my family is, and always has been, a wee bit crazy. Evidence will be forthcoming. |

On a more temperate note........
The plane came very well packed as you can see. There was a very deep puncture in the wing box and I was hesitant to open it to see what I might find. There was a very minor ding on the edge of the hinge area of the right wing. My wife and I looked at it and decided it was so minor it was not worth going through a claim process with the shipper. I am sure that if this plane had not been so well packed, the strike on that box would have done some real damage to the wing. The cardboard was very heavy and the internal packing well designed. We will be building the plane as it comes to start with as much as we can. If we make any modifications we will list them. We will see what the all up weight comes out to be as supplied and how we outfit it. Then we will see what we can pimp this ride down to! It mocked up very fast for motivational purposes. The picture of the scale is with the plane resting on the firewall, hatch on, rudder slid on, stabs on the tube and wings on the tube. As you can see the landing gear are on without cuffs or brake covers. The tail wheel is not mounted. The cowl with the ring-mount in it was an additional 10 oz. That would bring the airframe without the tail wheel or hardware to 9#. Hope to have more tomorrow......................... Dang, look at the clock.......it already is tomorrow

Well, life has a way of making us busy and changing our plans. Builds character I hear. Oh well.
This plane is coming along finally. I had some good quiet time with it over the past few evenings. I will post some pictures tonight (er is that this morning?) and I hope to tidy up the final touches tomorrow. I will have an all up weigh in with a picture of the scale also tomorrow (later today) I added a little weight to the plane with a couple of things I did. No I do not know how much as I did not take the time to weigh the parts used. As I stated, I am trying to stay as stock as I can with this bird to start with. I am not trying to do everything I can to lighten it at this point. Here is a list of the equipment so far. Modified equipment in blue. Airwild MLP servo arms (cause I had them and not arms for the included setup that is very nice stuff) 4-40 ball links at the above arms and Airwild pull pull fittings DS8411 x 4 DS8611a x 1 4031 x 1 Fromeco 4800 pack on Rx Fromeco 2400 pack on ign Smartfly Ignition reg Fromeco Badger for ignition Fromeco Regulator with failsafe switch JR 9ch Rx Mejlik 23x8 DA 50 with Slimline Pitts muffler TruTurn 3.5 inch spinner (menz cut lightened backplate) that will be changed to a 4" soon. This was the only item that I actively said no to in the kit. The supplied spinner is........ red........plastic.......nahhhhh. not usin it. Dubro 24oz tank just because I could........... I used various Velcro straps and added a couple of pieces of wood to mount things the way I liked etc. I also closed off the two openings in the cowl cheeks to force the airflow over the engine. this enabled me to also make a nice little choke linkage from a 2-56 ball link and carbon fiber rod. That's it. More later......

Well, it is finished! We still have to make some choices for graphics, but all the installation, setup etc is complete.
Overall, this was a very nice plane to assemble. I built it almost completely stock except for a couple of modifications. I added a couple pieces of wood to mount things where I wanted and closed off the cowl inlets as described above. I added a little weight but not much. I did not attempt to lighten it down by using minimal batteries, or no regulators etc. It has the stock aluminum gear in it. The quality of the components are very good. The wing incidence side to side was less than .05 degrees apart. I was able to easily get the suggested 3D throws of 40 degrees on elevators and ailerons and the five inches of rudder. The low and high rates were dialed in and matched surface to surface with minimal required program tweaks. My copilot was a big help in setting up the surfaces with the AeroPerfect meter. She even helped me gap seal all the hinges last night with clear monokote. I have included a picture of the model balanced on my scale for reference those that thought the plane would be 18 pounds. I do have to say that these planes do tend to be photographed with nice looking models and I have continued that tradition . That shot is for you Bodyworks. hehe. Just yankin yer chain. I feel pretty good as a guinea pig right now and am looking forward to the maiden. We plan on trying our hand at some video too.
