Does anyone have the all up weight for Da 50 R including everything needed to run but a battery and switch harness. If you could include the type of muffler also.
Thanks |

Engine w/ plug: 3 pounds exactly
ignition: 3.7 ounces 3" stand offs: 3.3 ounces Slimline pitts :8.9 ounces Slimline extra bracket and hardware: 2 ounces Battery: 3 ounces Switch: 0.6 ounces (Cermark/JR HD) -------------------------------------------------------- 4 pounds, 8.5 ounces (4.5 pounds). You will save some weight if you go with a lighter/louder muffler. I think the minimum this engine can weigh with everything is 4 pounds. The battery at 3 ounces is very low, you'd really have to shave weight on the muffler type to get to 4 pounds flat. |

The slimline Pitts is DEAD WEIGHT. Subtract 6.5 ouces from the above total by going with a stock muffler.

There are two drawbacks to the DA muffler: loud and ugly.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but the JTEC pitts is lighter then the slimline and nice and quiet also.

If I'm going to add that kind of weight in an exhaust because I need it to be quiet, I'm going with a cannister. It may be heavier than even a slimline, but also way quieter and actually adds a couple hundred RPM, so it's an actual performance benefit, instead of dead weight.

What's it weigh? I'd like to find a lighter wrap-around to replace my brickish Slimline. |

DA50 with slimline pitts measured on uncalibrated radio shack db meter at 103db at 9'.
I laid tape measure from fuse centerline to tip of the sensor. 3 different planes and setups all seem to be fairly close. 2nd meter was used and came it at 103db also. Al: Can you build your super quiet version with thinner walls? I don't care if it crumple when you crash. MTW 75k canister: 9oz MTW double bend header: 4.5oz teflon coupler with 2 clamps: 1.5oz ------------------------------------ Total 15oz for canister setup for DA50 (Above excludes 0.5oz or so for canister mount with silicone bumpers) Last edited by red_z06; 02-08-2006 at 10:59 PM. |

I see your showing the canister system. our advantage is basically ease of installation. The advantage of cans is you may pick up some RPM if you have the room to install them On our large version, it has at least half again the canister volume as the for mentioned brand. In fact the engine that they tested our muffler on had the for mentioned muffler on it prior to testing ours and it did not pass the sound requirements of there club which is 98db at 3 meters. The results sent back to me from the WRAMS club menbers (NY) were that the readings with our large can muffler was 95db at 9 feet(less than 3 meters) and 94 db at 9.8 feet. The WRAMS have a very strick sound policy. Our design does not require additional support brackets FYI. We were the ones to make the first stock muffler for the DA50 when it was being prototyped. DA was our landlord at the time and we were in the same building (at the old location) Al JTEC/RADIOWAVE |
