Default Grieves pipes in a Carden 260

I thought some of you may be interested in seeing a set of Greve's tuned pipes in a 40% Carden 260. These are somewhat rare to my knowledge in Cardens I know of a couple others, this is my first attempt at it. The first 3 holes in the fuse bottom are balsa lined and will remain open for a cool look. The foam bottom was sheeted 24 inches on the inside past the back of the motorbox for a heat shield. The entire tunnel is made from 1/16th balsa sheeting coated with fast dry Minwax polyurathane on the inside. Because of the length of these and running flex headers I made 2 support brackets similiar to the supplied bracket used with MTW cans...Walt

Walt looks awesome! I have a question, with the pipe holders installed are you still able to remove the pipes if need be? It looks like the stinger is longer than the pipe is wide so will it fit through the hole when removing. I have been interested in running these pips.

Hey Garrett, They slide right in through the front. Its a little juggling with the stinger and you got to watch where your going. Its real easy upside down .When you push the pipe through, you lower the front and let the stinger start in the mount, when it does, lift the pipe and push the body through the mount to the next one then lower the header to allow the stinger to enter the mount and then lift the pipe up and push it on home. When the pipe is at the outlet I rotate the pipe 180degrees to let the stinger point down. Walt

Walt,
In my 07 Carden I am also using the Greeve pipes. Here is how I set them up in basic form. I have no pictures of the final assy, but you get the idea. I did not trim my overboard exhaust so I used a cut out in the mount so they would slip through. Lots weaker but...
I also fabricated a forward mount where the teflon couplers go, but it moves a bit to allow for vibrations. It is more for basic support although the cans are pretty light as you know.
I only have one exit hole in the rear for cooling air, but the mount is aft of the exit hole so air will flow through easily. I also sheeted and lined all foam inside so I can heat/fuel protect. I used 50% thinned finishing epoxy to seal the wood but I need to get that Minwax you use next time.
Overall weight of the can mount with gussets is 1.2 ounces which is 1 ounce lighter than the 1090 mounts from 06 (which have not let me down yet). Not shown is the tubing for isolation.
I am just adding to your thread, not trying to compete with ideas or anything. I am hoping my mounts don't blow apart on the test flight unlike yours which look great.
Great job, that's why you get paid the big bucks!
Will B.

Hey Will: did you recut your bottom? I actually raised the cans up in the fuse by about 1 inch to clear the bottom towards the rear. I thought more clearance would be better. You installation looks great, I wish I'd seem this before I started on this one, I just wing'd it so to speak...Its nice to see the photo's to get the ideas working, Thanks Walt
