Brannd new but old style Quadra 50 converted to RC EXL...Vess 22-8, 6600 using a Milton Thompson G26 muffler held on with 1 bolt, the pattern is not the same....
Maybe Tom Sabatini, Q52 maker, should look into this combo.......The 52 is stronger than the 50....

May not be as my DL-50 spins a Vess 23A at 7400. The 55 is stronger. Also it's very difficult to get a accurate thrust reading like that. I tried. LOL

my dle55 spins that prop same rpms through a canister exhaust. would be better with stock exhaust or even better with a tuned pipe.

Hi, relatively new to this forum.
Can someone explain the focus on (high) rpm's? (exept that it is the thread headline)
Isn't it a high level of thrust at a relatively low rpm that is what to look for??
If there is a thread about that, please direct me.

Thank you

I can't speak for the rest of the guy's here, but I like to compare what other people are getting in the way of RPM's with the same prop and engine that i have. Also it weeds out the under powered engines so i don't waste my money on a dog.

Americans are very fond of rpm and You are right, it is thrust that moves a plane.
Having said that, rpm combined with propeller data provides very valuable information for cross-comparison of engines and engine-muffler systems, so this thread is of great value.

70 degrees, 20 foot above sea level, stock muffler, regular gas,

JC Super Prop 20x7 gives 7000 rpm.

BME 116 Vess 27 B after 3 tanks of ground run, after 2 tanks of flying from cold its a 6900RPM
after a few seconds it goes down to 6500 when warm
is this normal?
pulls my extreme flight 35% yak 54 easily, floats a lot better now

You should get some drop, but with that engine I usually don't see that much. It might be getting a little warm. Try richening up the high a tad and see if the drop is not a large or low. Also be sure you have adequate air flow and some sort of baffling with good extraction.

You should never run these engines that much on the ground. Get the needles adjusted correctly and fly them. They cant get enough air to cool them when they are run on the ground.
