Default H9 Cap 33%... what's a good weight???

Hello,

I am looking at getting a used H9 Cap 33% for use with my BME110. The current owner says it weighs 25.5lbs with his ZDZ80. Is this heavy for the plane? I am looking for rock solid harriers.... and good 3D.

Thanks,
Shaun

Heavy for the size? I dont think so, but i thought those H9 CAPS were supposed to be around 22 or 23 pounds with a ZDZ80. My GP cap Is about 24 give or take. Is there anything in the plane that looks particularly heavy (anything that isnt factory)? I think you'll be fine and the BME will pull the crap out of it.

If I remember correctly, my H9 Extra weighed around 25 lbs.
and I believe the Cap is near the same.
They are both heavier planes (air frame by themselves).
BUT.. this is not a bad thing, I have flown a H9 cap that was 25+ lbs with a DA 100 and it was awesome.

For reference, my WH 260 with a ZDZ 80 came in at 22.5 lbs ready to fly... so perhaps adding a CF tube and gear could help a little.

My H9 Cap weighs around 25lbs with a 3W-106. It's diffenitly overkill of this plane. At 25.5lbs with a BME 110 you will have outragous power. You'll be fine, and absolutely love this plane.

mine is pretty heavy, but I have a 3W TOC 120 in it. It is really rock solid in a harrier. Does it real easy.

Mine weighs 23# 10oz's. BME 110 and lipo batteries. Stupid power. The ZDZ 80 would be a better match for this plane IMO.

Mine weighed about 25 lb's. It was not really an issue. If you want solid harriers look no further.

So Brian, whats your take. I too have a Cap and an Edge. Which do you prefer between those specific ones? ( the H9 versions)

Sprice,
I have a brand new, unflown H9 232 with all new everything. I went with an old style (new and un-run) 3W-80 twin, 8611's all around, a couple of Matchboxes on each wing panel, a single JR 955 RX with two 2700 NiMh and two switches. I picked the plane up from Chief Aircraft in May of 2002 for $750.00 shipped. Between kids, college and high school activities and the like I have managed to complete this bird and it's ready for a maiden flight pending the crazy Spring weather. My all-up weight is 24 lbs, 6 ounces. I ran the motor for 10 minutes the first time and 5 minutes the second time. Both times the scales showed a hair over 40 pounds of thrust. (Evolution 24-10 for a break-in prop as per old instructions.) I'll put a Mezlic 26-10 on it after this first hour of break-in. I know that all this contradicts how you break-in a newer 3W but these are factory instructions from 1992. Let's see............. a tad over 24 pounds all-up weight, a tad over 40 pounds of thrust, I'm thinkin' PRICELESS here!!

They both rock but I prefer the Edge. The Cap does the most stable upright harrier but the Edge is only 22 pounds so it fly's lighter and is much more "flickable".

Mine is 23.5 with a ZDZ 80. 2 guys I fly with have the 1st generation H9 Extra and Shukoi both with the ZDZ 80s and the Cap we all find is more suitable for 3d. No rocking in harrier or elevators. Photo of mine coming out of a waterfall.

Nice pic!

Thanks for all the imput guys.... thing is it seems like shipping from the buyer may be impractical. $400 via Fedex! He is going to get a quote from Greyhound Monday, so we'll see.

Mine is currently about 24lb's with a BME 110 and absolutely rocks! It's completely 'stock' with a heavy spinner and no carbon goodies. I blew the dust of mine and flew it for the first time in a few months yesterday and fell in love with it all over again. When I bought it, it was a little over 27lb's with a 3W 85 twin and 2lb's worth of Nicads! I dumped the nicads and flew it for a short time with it weighing in at a little over 26lb's and it flew great. I liked it enough to do a complete overhaul by selling the engine and servos, etc.. Even severely overweight, it didn't really have any bad habits and still 3D'd great. With the BME110 and it's current weight, it's an absolute blast. The only plane I enjoy more is my 40% Carden Cap.

As for the H9 Cap vs. Edge, I had an Edge with a ZDZ80 and recently sold it. I still have and love the Cap. Overall, the Edge was a good all around flyer but I honestly found it boring. It's not a bad plane by any means, it was just too sedate for me. My only real complaint about the Edge is the rudder is weak. I had plenty of servo on the rudder and all the throw I could get and it would barely climb in KE.. The Edge will hover and TQ pretty much hands off; that's the only thing it does better than the Cap.

My $.02
