I have recently got my first 40%er and I'm a little confused on how to set it up. I fly with a 9c super and use one DP149 receiver in my 30% yak. I bought my carden used and it was set up to use one receiver. It has an i4c isolator and 3 switches. Two for the plane and one Nicad for the receiver. I heard that its very likely that the ceramic filters go bad, and is a must to use two in the big planes. I also heard that a possible reason this happends is that all loads of the servos are going through the receivers, with the isolator the one receiver has a dedicated battery to the receiver and it takes none of the servo's loads and only has receive the signal. I also hear that its more likely that batteries and switches fail. Is the current set up good? or do I need two receivers? Do the DP149's regulary fail? Which set up is safer? Or is all just preference? Help me!

Ceramic filters have multiple crystals inside a little box mounted to the board inside your receiver. They are suceptable to vibration and most problems are due to poor building habits so isolate your reciever from vibration and you will have no problems they do not like crashes either. 40% aircraft cost a bit more so you may want to make sure your install can handle the extra amps Good luck

Mike,
The Ceramic filters are used to reduce noise and interference(single conversion receivers have one, dual conversion have two in the receiver.) The amount of current flow on the bus to the servos shouldn't have any effect on the filters. Early 149DP receivers had some issues. If the receiver has been in use, and not had any problems, relax. If it's ever in a crash, send it in. They should replace the filters without you asking, but do it anyway. You can also send it in and have them check it. Berg has an interesting discussion on their website that will answer some of your questions: http://bergent.net/SC-DC.pdf Dan |

The link I posted actually talks of single/versus dual conversion, but that's the job of the ceramic filters.
