Default Please help me pick my next gasser!!!!!!

Hey guys,
its time for me to start building a new plane! Pretty much what I have in mind is 35% or smaller (not enough space in the car)! The thing is, I have been looking at the comp-arf 2.6 meter extras but i dunno, because it is composite and if the paint messes up or something then i cant make it look good or repair it. If you have any ideas on ANY 35%( composite, wood w/e) plane please let me know, and of course if you can speak out of experience that would be great! Best regards, and thanks in advance,
nick

this could be the most open ended thread ever......

What engine are you using? What is your flying style? what plane do you LIKE?

Really it comes down to what you like... just about any of the big name airplanes fly great....

Do you like Yak's or Extra's or Super Cubs??

You said build, then brought up a CA plane...
Do you want a kit and actually build or are you looking for an ARF to assemble??
there are so many possibilities.....

Go for the Wild Hare 35% Sukhoi. There have been some really good comments made on this plane.

I agree, It all depends on your likes/dislikes. You can help us help you by giving us the equipment/motor/ect of what you are going to use. Do you want an ARF? a kit? or an ARC? so on so on . . . .

Personally, I dont like the Comp-Arfs - I have a 2.3m Extra, and it wont fly pattern worth a darn. It 3Ds okay. - Again are you looking to 3D, IMAC, fly around? . . . .

I have a 102" QQ Yak that I love . . . but that plane fits my flying style . . .

my .02

Heydick- dude - the new avatar and comeback are hilarious!
I freakin LOVE satire!

niccolo98 - My first was a GP Patty Wag. EXTRA 300. $400.00 with a Zeonah G38 (donated by a friend to get me into gas engines. I flew that plane's wings and tail feathers for over two years. Liked so much I bought another one to just sit in waiting. As fate would have it I stalled on landing approach and had to pull the fuse out to replace it and a wing tube. Made the kit whole again by purchasing the parts from Twr.Hob. ( plane was on the flight line - decals and all the next weekend because of the way the tail is set up and old firewall made a perfect template.) Who - me crashed?? NO WAY!

Now I'm considering getting that 'spare' out of the box and putting a DA50 on it as my back up for the SD-Models EXTRA 260.
IMO- a good trainer.

On second thought - why not change out the engine on your Hanger 9?

Sorry guys, I was sorta in a rush to start a thread. I apologize! I am looking for a 3D arf, not a kit! Unless there is a kit that is really easy to build! Im looking to go bigger than 27%!
So: arf 75-100cc 3D!
thanks nick

nick, imo i think you should go with the 2.6 extra 260/300 with a zdz 80! i can see why your concerned with the paint however, the guys at our field have 300 flights on there comp-arfs with no visable wear. another thing is that Nir is a professional builder specializing in comp-arfs, he can re-paint/fix anything! You could get the comp-arf through andy and get another discount on the zdz! btw, have you flown the extra yet? also when are you going to be at the field next, i have a new twist, extra 260 profile, and an extra 330 that are itching to hover lol! pm or im me so i can give you my #! one last thing, i know some guys at our field are selling there planes, i know you dont like used but, you wont have to ship back if there are any defects+ you could have andy or nir check it out before you buy+ you save money (just a thought)!

youngflyer is headed in the right direction with the compy with a zdz80. The zdz80 has plenty gusto to haul that plane around. That wing loading will be more affective with a lighter motor making it a better 3D plane and reduce any rocking you might have. might be a bit harder to balance... just slap everything under the cowl. Minor repairs arent soo hard... its the paint that gets tricky. Any of the paint jobs like the fantasy... good luck bro. I flew my 3.3m yak at the fresno 3D fly-in in a couple of weeks back. You'd never know it had a hole in the bottom of the fuse two days before. The comps fly really, really well.

Nick,
I sort of went the same direction into gasers. GP Patty Wagstaff Extra that I flew the wings off of -- literally. After a few other gasers I got the new Wild hare Extra 300 for may DA50 and it has been a perfect plane and my favorite until I got the Wild Hare 35% Sukhoi. Without a doubt the best and most cost effective plane I have flown. Mine is powered by a DA100 but there are sevreral other power choices. I would love to see what this plane would do with the new DA85. It has way enough power with a DA100 and insane power with the BME 115 according to the reports.
