Default Futaba's FASST System

The Futaba FASST system is a 6EX-2.4GHz transmitter and receiver combination. FASST stands for Futaba Advanced Spread Spectrum Technology.

Futaba has utilized 2.4GHz spread spectrum technology in their industrial R/C applications for almost 15 years. The decision was made to invest time in researching and enveloping a customized chip, which offers optimized performance specifically for R/C demands. This is not a chip that is manufactured for various other uses and as such, been incorporated into the FASST design.

Futaba's spread spectrum technology has proven that the ideal situation for modelers is to utilize channel shifting whereby the system continuously changes frequencies every two milliseconds thus preventing signal conflicts and eliminating interference issues.

When I received the system I put in my FG Foamy to test fly it for the first time. To link the transmitter with the receiver was simple, turn the transmitter on, then the radio, the green light on the receiver will blink indicating no signal, press the "ID set" button on the end of the receiver and the green light on the receiver will stay on solid and the system is linked.

When mounting the receiver in your plane, heli or glider, you need to make sure you have the dual antennas as close to a 90 degrees as possible. I test flew this system in my FG Foamy, Seba Katana S30E, BME 30 Yak and Qui Que 102" Yak without a problem one, I had to use a couple MSA's to help this 6 ch system with multiple servos. I have had 30+ flights and am in love with the precise feel and response time of the 2.4 system.

The future for 2.4 is just beginning, stop by the Futaba/Great Planes booth at the Toledo Show and see the future in RC.

The system retails for $299.00 / Street price $219.00 extra receivers are $89.99

Now all we need are the "missing" modules. Maybe we'll be surprised at Toledo!

So has anybody with electronic engineering background taken one apart yet ?
Does the custom chip have additional servo signal outputs ?
If so, how many ?

For example - all Futaba PCM1024 receivers use the same chip. It has output for 10 channels (8 proportional two on/off). Differently priced receivers then bring out different number of these pins to the actual servo connectors.

By looking at the custom Futaba chip, you could easily see what the future holds for us.
