First of all, Frank (Futabaman)- awesome avatar!

Max-

Sorry for the delay. I took the Mrs. to dinner

The binding on our systems take place through the Easy Link button on the receivers. After the module has been inserted into the respective transmitter, turn the tx on and press the Easy Link button for apprximately one second. This links, or binds, the two.

The button on the back serves as a method of failsafe and as the power down function for range checking.

I hope this helps. If any more questions just let me know.

Mark

1. The 14MZ is a very advanced transmitter where traditionally 72mhz channel selection is accomplished through touchscreen inputs. With the SS module in place, does this interaction change in any way? Meaning, is the transmitter smart enough to know that a SS module is plugged in? If so, does binding take place through the touch screen?

2. The F/S label on the back of the module. Failsafe? Or is it the binding button?

Thanks Mark!

We're going to suggest that modelers remove the antenna from the system when using the FASST systems.

While it's unlikely that it will cause any problems, it's not utilized when the FASST module is in place. Plus, it only takes a few seconds to re-attach the antenna when you want to utilize your existing 72 MHz equipment.

Will this be an issue with the 9Z? If I'm not mistaken, that antenna doesn't unscrew...

Thanks, Doug

I understand the relationship and I've given my feedback to Tower. Since the site hasn't changed since the mid 90s, I doubt it will any time soon. It would be nice to see Hobbico give the same web treatment to Futaba that Horizon does to JR.

Ive got a couple of simple questions(I hope)
1: Will I loose any functionality on my 12Z (channels, programming etc) by using the plug in module?
2: Will the latency still be the same if not better if I use the plug in module on the 12Z as apposed to now?

What features does the 12FG lack that the 12Z has?

Excel, you will not loose any channels, or programming. The module does not control this. You will have the full function of the radio.

The speed will be pretty much the exact same as you have on 2048.

Thanks Garrett. That pretty much sells it for me. Just goto wait for the modules to reach Australia.

But will the plug in modules have the same speed as the built in systems?

I know the 2048 is fast and have heard the 2.4 was even faster. But have also heard the plug in modules may not be as fast as the built ins.

What does "pretty much" mean? Does it mean "almost as fast"?

I suppose the GreatPlanes rep is not a techie, since we do not get any answer wheather is uses PPM or not, for internal communication to the module.

I sincirely hope that it is not PPM and that we will have this question answered shortly.

Personally I dont think I would tell the difference between the 2 speed wise. When I first got me 12Z I was using dual R149(1024) Rx's in my 44% Giles then I switched to dual G3(2048) Rx's. I dont think I could tell the difference. As long as its in the ball park then what does it really matter?

So, If I understand this correctly, the 14mz, the 12z, and the 12fg can all switch modules and fly the same on either 72MHz or 2.4GHz. The only differences will be the internal programming features of each TX? Is this correct?

Thanks, Jim

I have two questions.

1. If the FASST receiver is installed inside a CF fuselage (or any other type which might block RF) is range decreased? The antennae are now completely internal.

2. This is just intense curiousity about how it works. The literature says the transmitter changes frequency every 2 milliseconds. Can you tell us how many frames are transmitted before each frequency change? How many frames can it send in 2ms? This then would help us establish the actual frame rate.

I am assuming that the transmitter is sending one to n complete frames on a channel, then switching to another unused channel. This would make any interference last 2ms or less, assuming that the new channel selection is clearer than the old one.

Is this correct?

Hammbone,

Yes on the 14mz and the 12z but the 12fg is a dedicated 2.4Ghz system.
